General information<br />

Refer to the front of this manual for general test conditions,<br />

terminology, detailed descriptions of wiring faults <strong>and</strong> a<br />

general trouble shooter for electrical <strong>and</strong> mechanical faults.<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes are displayed by the malfunction indicator<br />

lamp (MIL).<br />

a Some models: The ECM fault memory can also be checked<br />

using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link<br />

connector (DLC).<br />

Accessing<br />

Normal mode<br />

Switch ignition ON.<br />

Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals El <strong>and</strong> TEI m.<br />

If no trouble codes are stored, the lamp will flash twice per<br />

second H.<br />

Each trouble code consists of two groups of one or more<br />

flashes El [A].<br />

Warning lamp flash duration: 0,5 second El [B].<br />

A 0,5 second pause separates each flash El [C].<br />

A 1,5 second pause separates each trouble code group El [Dl.<br />

A 2,5 second pause separates each trouble code El [El.<br />

For example: Two 0,5 second flashes - 1,5 second<br />

pause - one 0,5 second flash. <strong>Trouble</strong> code 21 displayed<br />

El - heated oxygen sensor (H02S).<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes are repeated 4,5 seconds after last trouble<br />

code.<br />

Count MIL flashes. Note trouble codes. Compare with<br />

trouble code table.<br />

Remove bridge wire.<br />

Switch ignition OFF.<br />

Rectify faults as necessary.<br />
