Erasing<br />

NOTE: Fuse removal duration depends on ambient temperature.<br />

The lower the temperature the longer the fuse must be<br />

removed.<br />

Switch ignition OFF.<br />

Remove EFI fuse (15A) from underbonnet fusebox for<br />

10 seconds minimum. SOHC: Location [1] & [2].<br />

DOHC: Location [3] & [4].<br />

Refit fuse.<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes may also be erased by disconnecting battery<br />

leads.<br />

WARNING: Disconnecting the battery may erase memory from<br />

electronic units (e.g. radio, clock).<br />

Repeat checking procedure to ensure no data remains in<br />

ECM fault memory.<br />

Test mode - DOHC<br />

Switch ignition OFF.<br />

Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals El <strong>and</strong> TE2 0.<br />

Switch ignition ON.<br />

Ensure malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) flashes four times<br />

per second.<br />

Start engine.<br />

Drive vehicle at over 6 mph (10 kmlh).<br />

Stop vehicle. Do not switch ignition OFF.<br />

With data link connector (DLC) terminals El <strong>and</strong> TE2<br />

bridged, bridge terminals El <strong>and</strong> TEI 0.<br />

count MIL flashes. Note trouble codes. Compare with<br />

trouble code table.<br />

Switch ignition OFF.<br />

Remove bridge wires.<br />

Rectify faults as necessary.<br />

NOTE: <strong>Codes</strong> 42 <strong>and</strong> 43 may be produced if this procedure is<br />

NOT carried out correctly. Code 51 will be produced<br />

during this procedure <strong>and</strong> can be ignored.
