General information<br />

0 Refer to the front of this manual for general test conditions,<br />

terminology, detailed descriptions of wiring faults <strong>and</strong> a<br />

general trouble shooter for electrical <strong>and</strong> mechanical faults.<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes are displayed by the LED incorporated in the<br />

engine control module (ECM).<br />

0 Switch ignition ON. If MIL illuminates to indicate a fault but no<br />

trouble codes are stored, suspect DLCIMIL wiring, MIL or<br />

ECM.<br />

0 The ECM fault memory can also be checked using<br />

diagnostic equipment connected to the diagnostic socket<br />

Accessing<br />

Switch ignition ON. DO NOT start engine.<br />

Count ECM LED flashes m.<br />

Note trouble codes. Compare with trouble code table.<br />

NOTE: No trouble codes stored if MIL illuminates continuously.<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes 1-9 are indicated as follows:<br />

E Individual short flashes display trouble code [A].<br />

A short pause separates each flash rn [B].<br />

A long pause separates each trouble code [C].<br />

For example: <strong>Trouble</strong> code 3 displayed rn.<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes greater than 9 are indicated as follows:<br />

o Long flashes indicate the 'tens' of the trouble code El [A].<br />

n Short flashes indicate the 'units' of the trouble code [C].<br />

0 A short pause separates each flash [B].<br />

A long pause separates each trouble code El [Dl.<br />

For example: <strong>Trouble</strong> code 14 displayed El.<br />
