General information<br />

Refer to the front of this manual for general test conditions,<br />

terminology, detailed descriptions of wiring faults <strong>and</strong> a<br />

general trouble shooter for electrical <strong>and</strong> mechanical faults.<br />

<strong>Trouble</strong> codes are displayed by the malfunction indicator<br />

lamp (MIL).<br />

The ECM fault memory can also be checked <strong>and</strong> erased<br />

using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link<br />

connector (DLC).<br />

Accessing<br />

Ensure ignition switched OFF.<br />

Switch ignition ON.<br />

Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals IGN <strong>and</strong><br />

CHK m.<br />

Wait 2 seconds minimum.<br />

Disconnect bridge wire from data link connector (DLC).<br />

Count MIL flashes. Compare with trouble code table.<br />

Each trouble code consists of two groups of flashes rn.<br />

Long flashes indicate the 'tens' rn [A].<br />

Short flashes indicate the 'units' rn [C].<br />

A short pause separates each flash 1 [B].<br />

A long pause separates each trouble code rn [Dl.<br />

For example: 1 long flash followed by 2 short flashes<br />

indicates trouble code 12 - mass air flow (MAF) sensor.<br />

Switch ignition OFF.<br />
