Removing the cover<br />

Important<br />

Read <strong>Chapter</strong> 2, “Safety information,” on page 3 and “Handling electrostatic<br />

discharge-sensitive devices” on page 6 before opening the cover.<br />

This procedure describes how to remove the cover.<br />

1. Remove any media (diskettes, CDs, or tapes) from the drives, shut down the<br />

operating system, and turn off all attached devices.<br />

2. Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets.<br />

3. Disconnect all cables attached to the computer. This includes power cords,<br />

input/output (I/O) cables, and any other cables that are connected to the<br />

computer.<br />

4. Remove any locking devices such as a padlock that secure the cover.<br />

5. If the cover is secured with thumbscrews, remove them.<br />

6. Press the button near the front of the computer cover and slide the cover to the<br />

rear.<br />
