Replacing the rear fan assembly 140 Hardware Maintenance Manual This procedure describes how to remove and replace the system fan. 1. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the cover” on page 117. 2. Note the routing of the rear fan cable to the system board. Disconnect the rear fan cable from the system fan connector on the system board. See “System board connectors” on page 116. 3. The fan assembly is mounted with four rubber mounts that protrude through the rear of the chassis. Remove the fan assembly by pulling the rubber mounts back through the chassis.
4. Install the new rear fan assembly by aligning the rubber mounts of the system fan assembly with the holes on the chassis and push the rubber mounts through the holes. 5. Pull on the tips of the rubber mounts until the fan assembly is in place. 6. Route the fan cable to the system board and connect the cable to the system board. This procedure describes how to remove and replace the system fan.<br />
1. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the cover” on page 117.<br />
2. Note the routing of the rear fan cable to the system board. Disconnect the rear<br />
fan cable from the system fan connector on the system board. See “System<br />
board connectors” on page 116.<br />
3. The fan assembly is mounted with four rubber mounts that protrude through<br />
the rear of the chassis. Remove the fan assembly by pulling the rubber mounts<br />
back through the chassis.
