HONG KONG/CHINA 675 "Talked to a friend of mine at the RTHK (Radio
Television Hong Kong) technical department over the status of 675am used
by the BBC in Hong Kong. He told me that with the Sino/British Joint
Declaration over HK signed in 1985 China is to maintain 675am until 2047.
He told me if the Mainland had it there way they would turn it off, but
cannot do it. So instead they lowered the power so much that at the moment
less than 8% of the territory has reception. The government has said that
if the transmitter was to break it would not be repaired or replaced.
This is the same case with the English channels from Hong Kong Commercial
Radio and Metro Radio Plus. These two only maintain English frequencies
and carry programs from international stations like VOA, DW and RFI. But
again they also lowered power and have become nothing more than a computer
playing file after file."
INDIA 17510 Re: audio quality on AIR/BES outlets a.s.o.
AIR Vividh Bharati on 17510 kHz, 4th June 2010.
AIR Vividh Bharati (VBS) on 17510 khz when checked at 8.50 hrs. Relaying
the "Manchaahe geet" programme. At 9.00 male announcer - "Vividh bharati
ke Shrota'n kaa hum shortwave 9870 khz mei swagat hai" (We welcome VBS
listeners to shortwave 9870 kHz). Opens to a special programme on songs
filmed on yesteryear superstar Dharmendra. At 9.04 abruptly changed to
instrumental music intro followed by scheduled Indonesian (?) service.
Quick check at the VBS usual frequency of 9870 kHz, which continued with
the regular VBS programme.
Either AIR is testing new frequencies for VBS or (more likely) the usual
goof up by the transmission technicians.
Sorry to say, thats trueness at least on Delhi and Goa tx sites, which
engineers produce 'own goals' each week. Except the excellent engineering
team at Bangalore 500 kW site to praise, which works on very professional
level.
(73 wb df5sx, wwdxc, DXindia June 4)
I understand technicians at Delhi have a more complex work of sorting and
sending correct feeds to various TX location. Still its inexcusable and
only demonstrates incompetency.
On a good day, transmissions from Bangalore are excellent. The national
channel at 9425 ex BLR is great most days. Such a shame that the studio
feed from Delhi is so muffled. They can at least invest in a few good
microphones and better acoustics.
(AK bht5180, DXindia June 4)
I don't think the problem with studio acoustics, (You can try listening
them via satellite) actually the problems lies in feeder system, and
transmitter, BES is the consultant they are now very busy to pushing
