He said through this collaboration with Radio Pakistan, USAID has yet again demonstrated its commitment to help the people of Pakistan by assisting their democratic government to reach them through radio in some of the most far-flung and impoverished areas of the country. The minister said at a time when Pakistan is fighting a most important war against extremism to bring peace to the country, "We want to send through our airwaves, not only timely and accurate news and information, but also, a message of hope, courage and resilience to those men, women and children who have been affected the most by this menace. "I am quite confident that this important partnership will go a long way in meeting our common objective to bring peace and stability in Pakistan," he added. US Ambassador Anne W. Patterson said US and PBC have had a very long and productive cooperation over the years so, "I am glad to sign this agreement to support PBC." She said the agreement would help PBC upgrade its transmission system in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and D.I. Khan. The ambassador said despite the introduction of modern technologies in the contemporary work, the Radio is still considered one of the major source of getting information while sitting in far-flung areas. PBC DG Murtaza Solangi in his welcome address thanked the USAID for extending cooperation to install Medium Wave transmitters and equipping studios with modern broadcast facilities in the war torn province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). He said PBC is undergoing a much needed phase of upgradation of its broadcasting network across the country to bridge the gap between people of different areas of Pakistan. Solangi said most of the existing broadcast facilities were planned, conceived and installed during the first democratically elected government of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He said the transmitters and the studio equipment provided by the USAID would not only help strengthen the writ of state in troubled areas but also serve the locals for their socio-economic uplift and congenial environment besides promotion of the rich cultural heritage of the area.
