(I am on a touring holiday, currently in Northumberland). (Tom Read-UK, BrDXC-UK Feb 17) You didn't say what time this was Tom but it could have been NDR Info Hamburg which relays BBCWS 1700-1730 UT according to WRTH 2010. The only English language broadcasts that I am aware of on domestic German Radio. In 2008 Antenne Saar, a public radio channel with German-French focus, started re-transmitting 30 minutes News/Newslink program of Deutsche Welle (2100-2130 CET-local time, currently 2000-2030 UT) on 1179 kHz 10 kW and local DAB block 8B (thus regional reach only). Das waren Sternstunden im Sommer 2009, aber die meisten Tage daemmert das ehemals so lebendige Areal an der Spree vor sich hin, wie im Wachkoma. Guenter Gollasch, Jahrgang 1923, seit 1954 mit dem Rundfunk eng verbunden, erinnert sich und packt dabei auch wieder einmal seine Klarinette aus. Noch laenger ist Gerhard Steinke als Toningenieur im Rundfunk. Er schwaermt von der einmaligen Akustik der Aufnahmesaele und klagt ueber die grosse Orgel, die seit Jahrzehnten ausser Betrieb ist - "ein trauriges Kapitel". Die Jahre 1989-91 waren eine aufregende Zeit fuer den abzuwickelnden Rundfunk der DDR. Christoph Singelnstein war Hoerspiel-Dramaturg und wurde dann Intendant, Hannelore Steer war Redakteurin bei Radio Berlin International und wurde Programmdirektorin. Beide erinnern sich in ihren ehemaligen Arbeitsraeumen. Helmut Lehnert kam als Musikredakteur vom Sender Freies Berlin in die Nalepastrasse, um das Jugendradio FRITZ aufzubauen. Das Verhaeltnis zwischen den Kollegen Ost und den Mitarbeitern West war "extrem gestoert", sagt er im Schutt der demolierten Studios im Block E-R. Hier ist zu sehen, was in der neuen Zeit der Funkstille durch Vandalismus und kriminelle Machenschaften in der Nalepastrasse geschehen ist.
