(wb, SW TX site Feb 14) SOUTH AFRICA 11785.03v little odd - two stations observed on 1643 UT Feb 13. Ahead an African station in Arabic like SSIRI Southern Sudan Interactive Radio Instruction from Meyerton-AFS, which is registered by 100 kW unit at zero degrees true north. S=9+20dB at 1640-1650 UT, underneath an unid Arabic singer. 11819.97v Another slightly odd outlet from Meyerton-AFS is Saturday only BBC Swahili service at 1430-1750 UT via Sentech AFS transmission center. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Feb 13) SRI LANKA 11750 SLBC Ekala scheduled in Sinhala language via the 300 kW TX gift by NHK World Tokyo. On schedule at 1500-1900 UT towards Middle East to the Ceylonese nationals as Foreign Workers living on the Arabic peninsula. S=9+20dB at 1635 UT Feb 13. Typical increased spring time propagation appearance here in Europe. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Feb 13) SUDAN 7200 kHz is on for most or all of the day (WRTH shows it taking a break at 0430-1500 UT). (Chris Greenway-UK, on visit to Nairobi Kenya earlier Febr, dxld Feb 17) SYRIA/LEBANON UNID pro-Lebanon stn on 1071 kHz. I was wondering why none of our Arabic speaking friends was yet able to identify the station on 1071 kHz which is targeting its broadcasts to (or from?) Lebanon. Its signal is often very strong here in the middle of Europe around our local sunset. Unfortunately I do not speak Arabic but I file:///Z|/DOKUMENTATION-BULLETINS/WWDXD-BCDX/2010/BCDX952.TXT[11.06.2012 10:39:52]

could hear something like "Saut al Lubnan". They speak very often about Lebanon, Beirut, they mention something what seems to be "Beirut time ... Greenwich Mean Time ..." etc. The format of the station is quite "modern". If somebody is interested to take a closer look at this station, I would like to offer my assistance of supplying some recordings (not made yet) if the reception is not good in your area. The station is not listed in WRTH (there is a section with Lebanon as a target but this station is not mentioned), not even in its MW list. (Karel Honzik-CZE CSDXC, mwdx Feb 13) Looks as though its the Lebanese radio station al Nur (or Al Nour) I found this report about it on DXing the Finnish Way: al-Nur Radio on 1071 kHz. Jan 19, 2007. The Hezbollah-controlled radio station, al-Nur Radio (Light radio), has been logged in recent months on 1071 kHz. The transmitter site is believed to be in Syria and transmission power 100 kW. The programme consists of relays of a FM-station of the same name and newscasts from al-Manar Television station. (Jan-Mikael Nurmela-FIN, Jari Savolainen-FIN, Tarek Zeidan-EGY, via Wolfgang Bueschel via NTT Aktuell, Jan 17, 2007) It IS listed in WRTH 2010 but under Syria - see p.355.
