speculated to be in Israel.

With the help of DF - direction finding - bearings from several other
European monitoring stns we are now able to confirm that, ibid. -
incidentally, we have also recently taken bearings for Voice of Southern
Azerbaijan which appear to confirm an Israeli tx site.

ISRAEL/IRAN Natl Ind Front of Southern Azerbaijan. Voice of Southern
Azerbaijan (Azeri: Bura Janubi Azerbaijan Sasi), which was first heard in
July 1996, is operated by the National and Independent Front of Southern
Azerbaijan. Southern Azerbaijan is the Iranian province of Azarbayjan
which borders the Republic of Azerbaijan. Programming is hostile to the
Iranian government. The radio is believed to transmit from Israel.
The radio says that it broadcasts progrs about "the daily life of the
people of Southern Azerbaijan under Iranian oppression, the struggles
of our brothers who live in Northern Azerbaijan (Republic of Azerbaijan),
their long standing war with the Armenian enemy who receives help from
Iran, progrs about our Azeri inheritance, our great history and
civilization."
All bcs will be one hour EARLIER in SUMMER.

Monitoring has recently taken bearings of this station which appear to
confirm an Israeli tx site.

ISRAEL (clandestine to Iran) 13645, [1530-1630] Voice of Southern
Azerbaijan: Tnx to WB's tip, I listened to this one on Apr 12. The carrier
came on arnd 1525, and then the signature tune at 1530, followed by the
opening anmts by a YL greeting the listeners with what sounded in Azeri
like "shalom." I believe the Israeli connection is to neutralize the
Iranian advances in Southern Azerbaijan.
