season:
We started the New Year with a DXpedition to French Creek which was our
second outing of the DX season. It was cold but fortunately dry in
January. Kris Field and Bob Montgomery were comfortably listening to the
bands inside the warm cabin I unloaded my gear, set-up my antenna and
joined them. Shortly thereafter John Figliozzi and Ed Mauger arrived.
Finally, Rich Cuff arrived - a day tripper for this outing. This was the
first time in many moons we had six for a DXpedition.
Africa, Pacific and Asian reception was good for the most part. Latin
America was very quick reflecting the low A Index values. While Papua New
Guinea and Indonesia were heard, most of the Indian regional outlets were
quiet this time around which was a major disappointment. Highlights
included Radio Oromiya on 6030 kHz at armchair level, Candela FM on 6105
kHz, Solomon Islands with BBC World Service program on 5020 kHz with
splatter from Rebelde, several different Thailand logs plus finding a
suitable home for a cute little stray black and white cat that was left in
the park by its former sub-human owner.
3250 HONDURAS Radio Luz y Vida, *1132-1144 Jan 11, caught man announcer
several IDs. Group vocals from 1139. Poor to fair.
(D'Angelo/FCDX-PA)
3260 PAPUA NEW GUINEA (New Guinea Territory), Radio Madang, 1138-1225 Jan
12, group vocals hosted by a man announcer. Man announcer with greetings
to listeners at 1218, taking phone calls and providing contact number.
Poor to fair.
(D'Angelo/FCDX-PA)
3290 PAPUA NEW GUINEA (Papua Territory), Radio Central, 1115-1215 Jan 12,
program of island music hosted by a woman announcer with Pidgin talks.
News at 1200 followed by a man with canned ID and announcements in English
at 1206. Also, caught woman announcer mentioning website but heard only
"www dot" portion. Poor to fair.
(D'Angelo/FCDX-PA)
3310 BOLIVIA, Radio Mosoj Chaski, 1007-1028 Jan 12, woman announcer
talking in presumed Aymara language. Some rustic vocals and talks by a
man. Nice ID over flute music at 1021 as well as some other announcements.
Poor to fair.
(D'Angelo/FCDX-PA)
3325 INDONESIA (Kalimantan), RRI Palangkaraya, 2203-2231 Jan 11, Jakarta
news with a man announcer. End of news at 2210 into local program hosted
by another man announcer. Series of female vocals until 2229 when a brief
instrumental selection, time pips and talk by the man announcer. Weak with
deep fades.
(D'Angelo/FCDX-PA)
3385 PAPUA NEW GUINEA (New Britain Island), Radio East New Britain, 1203-
1304 Jan 11, woman in Pidgin hosting island music program which turned
