(Drita Cico, RTSH-Head of Radio Tirana Monitoring since 1981, & HF Manager from 2005, RADIO TIRANA, dxld Sept 5) Glenn, Over the past week, the Albanian transmissions at 2030 and 2300 UT have been broadcasting continuous music with no sign of the news block that usually opens the broadcasts. The music continued straight through into the English segment at 0030 UT on 9860 kHz. First thought was maybe a strike but the technical problems mentioned must be the reason. (Will Flynn-PA-USA, dxld Sept 6) 13755, checking whether R. Tirana is back in scheduled English Mon-Sat at 1430-1500 UT: Sept 6 at 1430 nothing audible vs Cuban overload from 13680, 13740, 13780; 1431 a carrier, and can barely make out Klara's voice with English transmission schedule. Registers S9 but also with low modulation, unusable. European propagation very poor today. Last week, Anne Fanelli in NY found the 2000 UT English broadcast on 13640 kHz instead in Albanian. Drita Cico reports that there was a problem with their STL to Shijak for a few days so instead it relayed the domestic program I, picked up off the air. Does this mean all English broadcasts were replaced by Albanian, even all foreign-language transmissions? Shijak should keep some evergreen recordings on hand to play back from there in such emergencies, or better yet, have a backup feed route. (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld) Hello, Drita, Thank you for answering my question, which Glenn Hauser forwarded to you. Although I enjoyed the FM programming in Albanian, it was good to hear the English-language program again today at 2000 UT on 13640 kHz. I live near Buffalo, New York in the northeast United States, and that broadcast is at a convenient time on a frequency with no interference and excellent signal strength; the 22-meter band is a fine choice. I have enjoyed listening to Radio Tirana for many years and hope to do so for many more. Wishing you all the best as we go into the fall season, I remain Sincerely yours, (Anne Fanelli-NY-USA, Sept 7 via Drita Cico, Radio Tirana, dxld) 13755, R. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Sept 7) 6248.32 RASD, *0601-0620+, Sept 12, sign on with Western Sahara National Anthem. Qur'an at 0602 UT. Arabic talk at 0612 UT. Middle-Eastern type music. Slightly off their usual 6297 kHz. Was on 6248.38 kHz at sign on, drifting down to 6248.32 kHz by 0620 UT. This is my unidentified station that I recently reported. Fair but weak rtty QRM. Must use ECSS-LSB to avoid Equatorial Guinea on 6250 kHz. (Brian Alexander-PA-USA, DXplorer Sept 12) ANGOLA Radio Nacional de Angola is being heard most evenings, generally on 4949.7. However on August 10 at 2356 they were on 4950 and seemingly only in AM/LSB as I couldn't detect an upper sideband. Time pips at midnight followed by what probably was the news. Poor copy at only SINPO 23321. On August 20 at 2340 they were on 4949.7 with both sidebands audible, songs and a talk mentioning Luanda prior to time pips and Radio Nacional identification, SINPO 24322. I have heard the station around 2340 on this frequency on other occasions. Letters read from Christer Brundstroem Sweden, Dieter Leupold Leipzig, Michael Mehnert Hainichen, Bernd Seiser. Tiny signal of co-channel Moroccoan Nador underneath. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Sept 7) AUSTRALIA/SOUTH AFRICA 15400 The Sunday Sept.5th All Ireland final betweeen Clare and Kilkenny started at 1300 UT. 252LW is on air loud and clear but 15400 kHz via Meyerton-AFS is only weak and under stronger cochannel HCJB Australia. (Noel R. Green-UK, dxld Sept 5) 15400 I have only a faint signal from Meyerton, just barely sufficient for making out what this should be. And nothing at all on LW 252 kHz, it gets completely overriden by local noise. But then neither 252 nor RTE via Meyerton are exotic anyway. Btw, these RTE sports specials also used to include a DRM transmission to Europe from a UK site. Not so anymore. But this could be a simple result of a change of transmission providers/resellers, from what used to be Merlin/VT-group{next year Babcock call BAB} to WRN.
