Kalachakra Office Graz: Vom 11. bis 23. Oktober 2002 wird die Veranstaltung «Kalachakra for World Peace» mit S. H. dem Dalai Lama in Graz stattfinden. Die Kalachakra-Zeremonie dient der Förderung einer Ethik des Friedens, der Toleranz und der Harmonie im Menschen selbst und zwischen den Menschen verschiedener Kulturen und Religionen. Während der ersten Tage wird S. H. der Dalai Lama einführende Unterweisungen in die Prinzipien buddhistischer Philosophie geben. Repräsentanten der fünf wichtigsten tibetischen Traditionen werden im Vorfeld Vorträge halten. Weiterhin werden vorbereitende Rituale stattfinden wie das Streuen des Kalachakra-Sandmandalas. Die letzten vier Tage sind tantrischen Einweihungen gewidmet, die aus einer Reihe komplexer Meditationen und Visualisationen bestehen. Warum nennt sich die Veranstaltung «Kalachakra for World Peace» und nicht einfach «Kalachakra für den Weltfrieden» oder entsprechend auf Tibetisch? Der englische Titel wurde gewählt, da die Veranstaltung von den Organisatoren weltweit bekannt gemacht wurde. Rund 50 % der Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerinnen kommen aus nicht deutschsprachigen Ländern. Gibt es einen bestimmten Grund dafür, dass die Veranstaltung ausgerechnet in Graz stattfindet? S. H. der Dalai Lama hat die Einladung der Stadt Graz angenommen, eine Kalachakra-Zeremonie in Graz abzuhalten. Dass die Kalachakra in Graz stattfinden wird, ist den langjährigen guten Beziehungen zwischen S. H. dem Dalai Lama und der Stadt Graz, speziell dem freundschaftlichen persönlichen Kontakt zu Bürgermeister Alfred Stingl, zu verdanken. Verschiedene Lamas geben Kalachakra-Initiationen. Bestehen Unterschiede zwischen diesen und einer Einweihung durch S. H. dem Dalai Lama? S. H. der Dalai Lama ist die höchste spirituelle Autorität im tibetischen Buddhismus. Eine Initiation durch ihn zu empfangen, wird von Praktizierenden des tibetischen Buddhismus als besondere Segnung empfunden. S. H. der XIV. Dalai Lama hat bisher insgesamt 26 Kalachakra-Zeremonien geleitet, sieben davon im Westen. Die gängige Vorstellung ist, dass im Buddhismus Initiationen nur einigen wenigen ausgewählten Schülern und Schülerinnen zuteil werden. Warum gibt S. H. der Dalai Lama sie Tausenden von Teilnehmern und Teilnehmerinnen? Die Kalachakra-Einweihung stellt eine Segenszeremonie zur Förderung von Frieden und Toleranz für die Anwesenden, für den Ort der Veranstaltung und für die ganz Welt dar. Sie kann von Buddhisten wie auch von Nicht-Buddhisten besucht werden, eine Verpflichtung zur Praxis oder eine Konvertierung zum Buddhismus ist nicht erforderlich.
