Praise From the Heart<br />
godly wife from the household of a man named<br />
Laban. When Jacob came to Haran, he asked<br />
some men at the well if they knew Laban. "Yes,"<br />
they replied, "and there's his daughter Rachel<br />
now, com<strong>in</strong>g to water sheep."<br />
Jacob didn't waste any time try<strong>in</strong>g to impress<br />
Rachel. He ran over to the well, rolled away the<br />
stone and watered all of Laban's sheep. <strong>His</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d<br />
probably wasn't on water<strong>in</strong>g the sheep as much<br />
as it was on Rachel. Then he kissed her and<br />
wept.<br />
He told her he was her father's relative, so<br />
she ran and brought back her father to meet<br />
him. Laban <strong>in</strong>vited Jacob to stay with him for a<br />
month.<br />
After a month, Laban asked Jacob how he<br />
would like to be paid for the work he did for<br />
Laban. Jacob loved Rachel, so he told Laban, "I<br />
will serve you for seven years for Rachel your<br />
younger daughter." Laban replied. "It is better<br />
that I give her to you than that I should give her<br />
to another man."<br />
We need to remember Rachel was not<br />
Laban's only daughter. She had an older sister<br />
named Leah.<br />
Now Laban had two daughters: the name<br />
of the elder was Leah, and the name of the<br />
younger was Rachel. Leah's eyes were delicate<br />
[NIV says weak], but Rachel was beautiful of<br />
form and appearance (Gen. 29:16-17).<br />
Rachel had a beautiful countenance and was<br />
beautiful to look at. Rachel <strong>in</strong> Hebrew means "to<br />
journey." Leah on the other hand was not so<br />
