Worship <strong>in</strong> Spirit and Truth<br />
matter where or when or how, God desires<br />
worship that comes from the spirit.<br />
God Is Seek<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Earlier we looked at the story of Jesus<br />
meet<strong>in</strong>g the woman at the well. He revealed to<br />
her some of the most significant teach<strong>in</strong>g about<br />
worship we have.<br />
Follow<strong>in</strong>g is the key verse from that passage:<br />
But the hour is com<strong>in</strong>g, and now is, when<br />
the true worshipers will worship the Father <strong>in</strong><br />
spirit and truth; for the Father is seek<strong>in</strong>g such<br />
to worship Him (John 4:23).<br />
We need to answer three important questions<br />
about this verse:<br />
1. Why is God seek<strong>in</strong>g?<br />
2. What is worship <strong>in</strong> the spirit?<br />
3. What is worship <strong>in</strong> truth?<br />
I believe this is the only place where you f<strong>in</strong>d<br />
the expression that God is "seek<strong>in</strong>g"<br />
worshippers. Why would this omnipresent God<br />
be seek<strong>in</strong>g worshippers? Several scriptures make<br />
it clear that there is no place on earth deprived<br />
of <strong>His</strong> presence.<br />
"Am I a God near at hand," says the Lord,<br />
"And not a God afar off? Can anyone hide<br />
himself <strong>in</strong> secret places, So I shall not see<br />
him?" says the Lord; "Do I not fill heaven and<br />
earth?" says the Lord (Jer. 23:23-24).<br />
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or<br />
where can I flee from Your presence? If I<br />
ascend <strong>in</strong>to heaven, You are there; If I make<br />
