The Holy Grail of batteries
has finally arrived!
A totally new battery technology that will make
smartphones and other gadgets last twice as long
is, finally, within touching distance. This year could see
the introduction of rechargeable Lithium Metal batteries
which could offer double the capacity of current
Lithium-Ion technology despite being half the size.
Unlike today’s Lithium-Ion batteries, which use
graphite polymers, Lithium Metal batteries use foil,
which can hold more ions and therefore more energy.
Developed by SolidEnergy Systems, a company
founded by MIT researchers. Qichao Hu, CEO of
SolidEnergy, labelled the breakthrough “the Holy Grail
for batteries”.
“With two-times the energy density, we can make a
battery half the size, but that still lasts the same amount
of time, as a Lithium-Ion battery,” he told MIT News.
The new batteries can be made using the same
manufacturing equipment used for current products,
so they will get to market very quickly with the drone
market being the first to take advantage, with the first
applications planned for November 2016.
Other than consumer electronics, electric vehicles are
also expected to benefit hugely from this new tech,
according to Hu. “Industry standard for electric
vehicles is at least 200 miles on a single charge. We
can make the battery half the size and half the weight,
and it will travel the same distance, or we can make it
the same size and same weight, and now it will go 400
miles on a single charge.”

DEVELOPED INTO AN INCREDIBLE TALENT AND NOW PLANS TO
STEP UP TO THE SPOTLIGHT
Australian singer-songwriter Zenya, having shared a
stage in support of acts such as Justin Timberlake
(JT), Jay Z and Demi Lovato, is now ready to step up
to the spotlight and establish herself as a solo artist.
We chatted to Zenya after her recent end -of-worldtour
UK concert with JT as one of the Tennessee
Kids.
Zenya has come a long way from writing songs on
her guitar in the city of Newcastle near Sydney. Her
debut solo from 2015, ‘Freedom In A Kiss’ was a
good debut but she feels that it wasn’t necessarily
true to her character and is now looking to set that
straight and bare her soul in future releases.
Zenya’s singing pedigree came from her family and
especially from her grand parents, however, she has
created her own opportunities within the music
industry all under her own steam.
She explains that she recognised that getting heard
is the key to opportunities and began to expand
her network through singing at every possible
opportunity. “You’ve really got to network, socialise
and meet the right people but you also need to have
material, for people to listen to, so I really pushed
myself by singing at as many gigs that I could do, I
would record as much as I could, I would give out
my music, I would kinda just hustle and let everyone
get to know me”.
Zenya met a music director called Adam Blackstone
in Sydney who had been working with many of today’s
top artists. He introduced Zenya to JT, Demi and lots
of other acts and she places a lot of emphasis on his
influence in blessing her with these openings.
Zenya’s journey has been one of support to other
artists and one piece of advice she cites is to be
honest and true to yourself. It is easy to take on traits
and personas for the people in the business but it
is important to keep “you” at the core of everything
you do.
One thing that Zenya feels she could improve in her
life is organisation and structure. Being a creative
soul, she finds time can be against her sometimes
and having a routine that allows her to do vocal warm
ups and time to practice meditation would certainly
improve her day to day life.
We found Zenya to be a well rounded and professional
individual with a warm heart and personality that is
incredibly infectious. Her obvious raw talent and
ambition will be the driving force which sees her
continue on this road to success and recognition.

DUBLIN’S HARDEST WORKING BAND TOUR THE UK
iT7 Audio Ireland brand ambassadors, Keywest
have to be one of the toughest bands around today.
After beginning life as buskers and honing their
distinctive sound on the streets of Dublin, they have
worked and toiled their way to success, managing
to go triple platinum with their debut album ‘The
Message’. Now, with the release of, their second
album, ‘Joyland’, they are perfectly poised to step
on to the upper tier of the music business.
The rest of the band includes James Lock (guitarist),
Harry Sullivan (drummer) and latest member of the
band, Fionn Lynch, who takes over on bass guitar
for the triple platinum winning band.
We wanted to discuss their very different route to
famedom and they gave us a run down of what they
have planned next!
Grafton Street in the centre of Dublin was where the
band decided to set up shop, plying their trade and
entertaining thousands of tourists and citydwellers
alike. They have bucked tradition and have set out
along their own path without the usual record deals
and management companies that take so many
talented artists down dead ends.
This dynamic quintet was formed by life long buddies
Andrew Glover (guitarist) and frontman Andrew
Kavanagh and their never-say-die resolve has been
instilled into everyone involved. Working totally
autonomously on all aspects of the band’s material,
from graphics to video creation and song writing
through to website design, they handle everything inhouse.
This gives them a unique and tested formula
for growth and success.
To have created such a wide following through
performing on the streets of Dublin, and all under
their own steam, has meant a lot to the boys. It
has also helped them to bring the incredible
album ‘Joyland’ to their adoring fans, who have
responded in their droves to the sell out UK and
Ireland album tour. The new album, entitled
‘Fairground’ will be available for purchase at the
group’s live shows as well as online and is just
another example of how the band are aiming high,
calling the shots and treating their loyal fans well.
“We have a fantastic amount of music to share
now,” Andy says. “Fairground is as strong as
Joyland. We just wanted to make sure that both

Rain does prove that, circa 1984,
Prince was indeed the fairest pop
star of them all. Purple Rain is also a
refreshing attempt from a megastar to
put his hometown Minneapolis crew
onto the map. That’s just how cocky
and great Prince was: everything he
touched became purple and gold.

history, actually outgrossed the film
it’s based on. A decent enough but
unremarkable film without the slick,
groovy tracks laid down by Curtis
Mayfield, which work even better
on their own as a concept album
about drug use and liberation from
oppressive social mores.

various contemporary bluegrass

The soundtrack was created by
The Bee Gees and they did so with
absolute genius. Any disco song that

plan to pick up single mothers which
leads to a genuine relationship with
a child. He learns that being present
is actually more important than being
“good.” Badly Drawn Boy created
the songs and score to keep the tone
whimsical and still biting, yet never

excellent taste in trashy ‘60s surf
instrumentals, funky ‘70s grooves,
and fistfuls of mid-’90s indie film
defiance, the soundtrack to Pulp
Fiction redefined the way pop
music was used in feature films,

and tone for a new generation of
filmmaking.
Danny Boyle’s electric and eclectic
ode to heroin addicts in Scotland
boasted one of the best soundtracks
of the 1990s, capturing the joy of selfdestructive
escapism, the haziness
of lost weekends and the absolute
tragedy of overdose through tonally
perfect tracks from Iggy Pop, Blur
and Lou Reed, amongst many more.
Simon & Garfunkel’s soundtrack is a
cultural touchstone of a generation
trying to figure out what it wants to
be. Using pre-existing sweet but
rebellious songs that touched on
JFK’s assassination and fading
American dreams and re-packaging
them as a “soundtrack” to a film. Rich,
memorable & inspiring throughout.

HIS ILLUSTRIOUS SWIMMING CAREER.
1. How did you feel the games went from a
personal perspective?
They couldn’t have gone any better to be honest.
A gold medal and a World Record in my number
one event is pretty good.
2. Do you think the games lived up to
expectations and will it be an inspiration
to young people?
The games surpassed mine and others’
expectations. With the announcement of
financial problems after the Olympics had
finished, there was a lot of worry about
how the Paralympics would run. As an
athlete I didn’t see any issues and on a
couple of the days the Paralympics out
sold what the Olympics did. The games
were very successful and very loud! I
hope the media attention the games
got will inspire the next generation,
disabled or not.
3. What advice would you give to
aspiring, older, athletes?
Age is just a number. Always
give everything a try and enjoy
the process.
4. What events did you
manage to see outside of
swimming while in Rio?
Unfortunately I didn’t get to
see any other sports. I
finished my swimming on
the 12th and then I was a
cheer leader for my fellow
swimmers still competing.
The swimming team is

very close and we like supporting each
other when we race.
5. Was there a stand out performance/moment
that sticks in your mind from these games?
There are so many great performances that are
be memorable. The one that stands out for me
is the very last event on the last day the 4 x
100m mens medley relay. When it came to the
anchor leg the Brazil team turned in 5th/6th
place and were about 15m down on a medal.
The last swimmer clawed it back to win a bronze
for Brazil and the stands went wild and the
whole building was shaking from the noise. You
could also see how much the bronze medal
meant to the swimmers as they were all over
come with emotion and in tears.
6. In the manner that you won this time, are
we likely to see you perform in the next
games?
I’m still reflecting on what I did in Rio and at
present I’m fairly certain that I won’t be in Tokyo,
but on the same hand I am yet to announce my
retirement.
7. At what point in your career did you realise
that you could swim at the very
top level?
In 1994 I was selected to swim at the World
Champs as a 16 year old. I went there for
experience and came back with a bronze
medal. That was the catalyst to train hard.
8. What was your daily routine for training as a
countdown to the games?
Two hours of swimming in the morning, followed
by two hours in the evening. I train nine times a
weak in the pool. My focus is totally pool work
as I dropped working in the gym after injury
problems and it seems to be working.
9. Does music have an influence on your
training regime?
There is always music on at the pool I train at
but I can’t hear it when I’m in the water. When
ever I’m traveling to events I listen to the radio
and I always have my iT7 Audio headphones
ready when I’m at competitions.
10. What top five tracks are in your daily training
playlist?
In Rio, my main playlist comprised the
following tracks:

So it really looks like Oasis are reforming for 2017.
They just aren’t telling you, yet!
According to Noise11, the US music press
agency, they’ve heard from a 90s UK rock band,
with a very close connection to Liam Gallagher, who
say they’ve been asked to be the opening act for
some of the shows, so fans could be in for the ‘ride
of their life’.
The Liam and Noel Gallagher rivalry has well and
truly been mended, although a public display of
antagonism may work in the favour of publicity.
Oasis last played together with Noel and Liam
Gallagher on 22 August 2009 at the V Festival in
Stafford, where their final song was a cover of ‘I Am
The Walrus’ by The Beatles.
After that, the last few years has seen drama
between the two siblings brimming over so that
public cold shoulders have been a regular part of
Man City’s games. Oasis released a 3CD 20th
anniversary edition of ‘Be Here Now’ this year.
The original album featured Johnny Depp on guitar
on the track ‘Fade In-Out’. The new 3 CD version
featured Oasis performing The Beatles’ ‘Help’.
Since the break-up of Oasis, Liam Gallagher has
released two albums as Beady Eye and has a solo
album scheduled for 2017. Noel has released two
albums with High Flying Birds.
The last Oasis album was ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ in
2008. What a prospect this holds for Manchester’s
rock and roll genius’s to rise again!

GREEN DAY - REVOLUTION RADIO - RATING =
With history seemingly repeating itself with a controversial US election on the
horizon, many were hopeful for a ‘second’ American Idiot concept album.
‘Revolution Radio’ is still predominately political, incorporating sensitive and
controversial topics, open for equivocal debates, but is perhaps less provocative
than the commercial success that was ‘American Idiot’.
Reaching Number One in its first week in the charts however…Green Day are
back on track.

Taylor Swift took full advantage
of a famous friend by borrowing
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool
costume for a Halloween party.
The Shake It Off star counts Ryan
and his actress wife Blake Lively
as close pals, and decided to call
on the actor to help her dress to
impress for the spooky occasion
on Monday (31st Oct 16).
Ryan was clearly more than
happy to help out, lending her his
black and red anti-hero suit from
his comic book movie adaptation
released earlier in 2016.
Sharing a snap of herself in the
ensemble on Instagram, Taylor
wrote: “Thanks Vancity Reynolds

Blake was quick to comment
on Taylor’s Halloween look,

the title lick sticks to the inner walls

AARRGGH! The longest head worm
we have ever had, but a great tune
all the same.
Well, here it is: the first new Le Tigre
song in over a decade. Famed for
championing LGBT and women’s
rights as much as crafting brazen
lo-fi pop, this track is enjoyable,
even if some of the lyrics do sound
like cheerleading chants from a hell
governed by stand-up comedian
and feminist, Amy Schumer.
NO CD reminds us of things.
Remember being so obsessed with
music you’d spend all on physical
records? Loyle does. He rattles
through references to Led Zep and
“crackle of the vinyl”, a chunky guitar
riff draped over lowrider-funky drums
that sort of recalls A Tribe Called
Quest. Simply superb!

They may have peaked a solid 18
years ago, but there are still plenty
of people willing to pay good money
to sway through an hour of radiofriendly
alt-rock. Conversely, this is a
paint-by-numbers arena anthem that
could’ve been released by anybody.
It sounds like Coldplay covering Bon
Jovi, and not in a good way.
Any musician will tell you: the reason
they got into the game wasn’t due
to some gift given to them by the
heavens or some urge in their soul.

WE INTERVIEWED THE CHARISMATIC STAR OF LEEDS RUGBY
“If Not Me Who? If Not Now, When?” A motto that
echoes for Castleford Tigers’, Jake Webster,
written on his motivational board at the club and
words that hold a special resonance with him.
We met with Jake to talk about his career and
experiences from the game, here’s what he said:
1. What has been the best advice that you have
received?
Work hard, train hard and never stop learning.
Listen to your parents, teachers and coaches.
2. How important is nutrition to your success and
performance?
Nutrition and healthy lifestyle play a massive part
in rugby league. We always have to make sure
we are fuelling the body correctly as the physical
demand for our sport is so high. If I dont, I feel
the difference and can see it also. The club
trainers are always on hand to to give advice
and provide supplements as well. For example:
we get fed pasta the day before to carbo load for
the game.
3. What advice would you give to someone
wanting to come in to the game?
It’s not an easy gig. It takes a lot of dedication,
training, discipline and is both mentally and
physically draining. If you love the game it makes
it a lot easier. I dont see it as a job, it’s my
passion and I’m lucky to have been in this game
so long and still enjoying myself. It‘s a 24 hour
job. When you are away from the training fields,
you still need to look after your body. eg.(nutrition/
recovery/physio/video/extras) If you can deal with
all the hard work, on and off the field, then it is
definitely worth it.
4. Do you set goals/objectives to aim for?
I’m not a massive personal goal setter, but it is
something that could help people. As a team, we
set goals and standard that we all work hard to
reach which is very important in the success of

anything in life. This gives us direction and targets
to aim for to bring the best out in everyone.
5. Have you any tips on how to stay motivated
when training gets tough and challenging?
Being a team sport we all support each other and
help through the tough times, and there are a
lot of them. Pre season training is one of the most
challeging times for most rugby players and if you
can get through that, it all gets easier. The most
difficult part of pre-season is not having games on
the weekend.
6. What has been the highlight of your career?
The highlight of my career is playing for New
Zealand in the 2005 tri nations. We toured the UK
and was my first time experiencing the uk
weather. We beat Australia in the final 24 - 0.

have loved to have stayed in Melbourne for a bit
longer, so dearly.
8. Does music play a big part of your life and how
do you use it?
Music is an everyday necessity for me. I wake up
to it in the morning, have it blasting in the car
and have it going at training.
