From the Programme Editor
First of all on the eve of the new year can I wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year, and a
great big thank you for buying this programme! And especially for your wonderful support throughout
2016.
I cant believe its 2016, it doesn’t seem too long a go when I
was wearing my 2000 silly hat - where did those 16 years
go? (The hats in the loft!)
In some ways it’s amazing that the club has managed to retain
its place at step 4 given the financial restraints that we
have. That is a tribute to a number of ex managers but of
course also to Nick Davis and Tony Cornwell who have assembled
a talented and willing squad. Its also a tribute to the
committee!! Also of course of late we must pay tribute to the
development squads managers John Embery and Jermaine
Darlington who have produced such wonderful talent some of
whom have graced the first team squad.
On the finance side (sorry to mention it again) we have a constant
battle as none of us are rich and so the club has to pay
its way, but as you are probably aware that is not possible
with just the gate money alone so there is also a big new year
thank you for all those who attend the games and those of
you who are members of our lottery which is often our lifeline.
One new year hope for me would be that the supporters club
could help us with some finance, that would make a tremendous
difference to the players that Nick could attract, and help
retain those we have.
There may well be an announcement in the new year on what
direction the club is taking as far as ownership, so watch this
space. The Ryman league is requesting
all clubs to rethink their ownership model
to safeguard those running the club.
John in his notes mentioned that Hastings
manager Darren Hare played for us
in season 2005/6 and the pic is of Darren
during our home game on 26th August
2005 against Rothwell Town taken by
John as our usual photographer then,
Chris Regan, was on holiday. Also in
Hastings Utd history they have one of
our ex managers in Steve Lovell.
Talking of ex Brickies the latest Non League Paper article features popular local player Andy Drury,
who has just joined Ebbsfleet Utd so have a look at that
Once again then a very happy and prosperous new year to all Brickies!
