WHY URUGUAY? INDUSTRY UPDATE Meat production is declining and the demand from an increasing population is rising, causing protein shortages. - Higher feed prices fueling further livestock and raw material prices increases. - World meat prices continuing to rise. - Pork and poultry productions increases (shorter production cycles). Little disparity in global protein costs - an emerging market. - Increased consumption from emerging markets, ASIA, Africa and South America. Retailer and foodservice providers partnering at source. - Central procurement teams, securing raw material. e.g. ASDA/ Greene King/ TGI Fridays/ Whitbread established partnerships in the UK, Loblaws and Chipotle in N. America. China is the largest and most valuable export destination for Uruguayan beef and by-products. Brazil has been increasing beef exports. - Lower domestic consumption. - Currency devaluation. Australian beef and veal production is now expected to be 15% down from 2015-2016.
WHY URUGUAY? CERTIFIED GRASS FED BEEF Cows are ruminants, superbly adapted to convert grass into meat or milk. - Cattle were never meant to consume corn. - Commercially driven decisions. Research is proving that the health concerns, long associated with eating beef, result not from eating beef, but rather from eating corn-fed beef. Cattle on pasture have Ph neutral (Ph of 7) stomachs and high in conjugated linolec acid (CLA). - CLA is an anti carcinogen, anti-diabetic anti antherosclerosis (heart disease). Cattle fed or raised on pasture have the correct levels of Omega 3 and 6. - Omega 3 is lost on grain fed production systems. Grass fed beef is becoming more popular due to greater public awareness - You are what you eat.
