ISSUE 3: DREAMS, DESIRES & DRIVE
January 2017
On The Cover:
The coffee cup. So simple, yet so giving. From being
the vessel for a morning wake up call, to a place to
wrap cold hands on a snowy day. The humble cup
has a way of giving us the opportunity to bring our
own kind of beauty into every single day. How is
today going to be beautiful for you?
Our world is often
sold to us as:
BLACK or WHITE
GOOD or BAD
LEFT or RIGHT...
But if we take a closer look...
We might notice the lines are
often blurry, leaving room for
many shades of grey.
It’s in these shades that
we often find
our unique selves.
A sometimes smudgy
blend of every single
experience
thought
&
feeling
that we have ever been
exposed to.
What does that mean for us? It means:
We quite frankly have different dreams,
we understandably have differing desires
and, if we’re lucky enough we either have the drive
or can still learn how to rev up the engine on drive,
so that we can bring our dreams & desires ALL together.
Join me this quarter, as I explore the black, the white plus a
few shades of great, that make us all in the perfect place to get
what we want out of this crazy thing called life. With Heart -MOE
Dream Weaving
“
Hope lies in dreams,
in imagination, and in the
courage of those who dare to
make dreams into reality.
”
- Jonas Salk
If you are a dreamer, you are one of the
lucky ones.
Your mind keeps filling with unexplored
ideas, innovative solutions and endless
possibilities. This is an unabashed form
of creativity and a beautiful gift. Never
mind those folks when you were a kid
who used to call you ‘a dreamer’ like it
was a bad thing. They didn’t know, that
dreaming openly illuminates your life with
a willingness to look past the ordinary
and at times, find unique solutions to
road blocks. When a dreamer dares to
follow through on the wildest of their
ideas, the results often lead to a life less
ordinary.
Now the question you may want to ask
is: Can anyone harness the potentiality
of a dreamer? Of course they can. It’s
actually quite simple once you get in
the habit of it, let me explain. In design
school we learned a very important
aspect of the creative process that is a
lot like the dream process and it goes
like this: Never shut down the creative
process by saying “NO”. Instead, keep
prompting more innovation and deeper
solutions by saying “YES, AND?”
“No” is a road block, and idea killer, a
mind closer. “Yes, and” on the other
hand, gets our dreamy creative mojo all
fired up. Absolutely you are going to run
into some hair-brained and goofy ideas
along the way, but keep saying yes, the
useless ideas are all part of the process.
We need to clear out the garbage and
even have a few laughs over crazy ideas
so that we open ourselves up enough
to access the good stuff that has been
connecting the dots and brewing deep
inside your mind for a while.
Yes not working for you? Don’t despair!
How about saying “what if” instead.?What
if also plunges your brain into the dreamy
world of the undiscovered. A few more
simple words that have the great power
of opening you up to the possibilities that
just haven’t been thunk up yet.
Not sure how to make a habit out of it?
How about making it all a game? At
the end of each day, check in and see
how well you’ve turned your no’s into
yes, ands and what if’s. If your day was
an epic fail, skip the drama of beating
yourself up and set up a challenge
instead. Start gathering your top 10
weekly dreamer moments or run through
failed attempts and make them rock
star moments in your head, an excellent
practice for the next round. Whatever
you do, have fun. Enjoy exploring all the
possibilities you are welcoming into your
life for this coming year and beyond.

Flickers of Desire
“
Love and desire are the
spirit’s wings to great deeds.
”
- Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
If you think about it, love and
desire are quite the entangled
duo. In fact they remind me a
lot of the children’s riddle: the
chicken and the egg (which came
first?) It’s hard to separate the
two, in fact, at times, it’s hard
to see there is any difference at
all. This can be the greatest of
conundrums, yet it will also make
asking the question “What do you
desire?” a lot easier to answer.
Desire is the linchpin for getting
what we want in this fabulous life.
Our desires create the foundation
of our dreamscape and then
directs our personal compass,
to harness the inner drive we
require to pull it all together, into a
cohesive whole.
Want to figure out your own
personal linchpins? Start by free
writing* a list of all the things you
love and/or desire in this life.
Remember, don’t edit, just write.
Nothing is too big or small to add
to your list. The whole point is to
be as inclusive as possible, so be
sure to write down your desired
emotions and truths as well.
When your list is complete. Take
a second look. Notice recurring
themes and unrealized dreams
amongst your annotations. Would
you feel a sense of regret if any of
these desires went unexplored?
Circle any of the items on your list
that fit this bill. Congratulations
you’ve just pinpointed your
potential linchpins.
Now it is time to rev up your
engines and combine these
desires to your drive. (See pg 22-
25 for details) For when you do,
an extraordinary thing will happen.
You will give your desire wings.
Happy travels.
*free writing is when you put pen to
paper and just write everything that
comes into your head without editing.
The beauty in this process is that the
longer you write, the more you tap into
that well of ideas just below the surface.
Coffee with Moe & Kirsten
It is a refreshing thing to meet
someone who is not driven by the
almighty dollar, or the acquiring
of stuffs, but rather a deep seated
desire to make a difference. This
quarter I am delighted to introduce
you to Kirsten Wreggitt, an
entrepreneurial spirit who is taking
her dream of a life worth living and
is actively making it a reality that will
serve humanity, one puzzle at a time.
Without further ado, lets get this
puzzling party started...
M: So glad to be giving my readers
a sneak peek into your life Kirsten.
Can you start us off by letting us in
on the best advice that you’ve ever
received?
K: There has been a lot of great advice
in my life but one that sticks out was
from a friend who encouraged me that
“You are never too old...” This phrase
is not new. But I had the realization
that we live in a time of unlimited
opportunity with exceptional health and
life expectancy and it is never too late
to do something. I am in my mid-forties
and knowing that I could have another
30, 40 even 50 productive years to give
back to the world really changes your
perspective. It doesn’t seem like a far
stretch to go back to school, start a
new business, and create a new way
to contribute. Pair this thinking with
“you don’t know how much time you
have” and you create the urgency to
do something meaningful today. This
advice has built a fire in me to find the
best way to share my gifts, impact the
world, and reach for my dreams.
M: Talking with you, it doesn’t seem
like the fire in you is a new thing.
Where did you grow up and how did
that influence you?
K: I grew up in a small town, approx.
200 people, in Northern Ontario. It
has influenced who I am more in the
past few years as I try to live more in
line with my own values and definition
of success. In a small town there are
few service agencies and instead the
community must step in and fill that
role. People rally around those in need,
those going through a tough time, and
those who need on-going support.
I miss the closeness of a small
community and it has influenced my
view of resiliency and how we might
bring more connection to any place we
live.
M: That sounds like a pretty great
foundation. And now? What
inspires you these days?
K: I am most inspired by seeing the
power people have to bring more good
into our world. They might be creating
Coffee with Moe & Kirsten
a social enterprise, fostering community
or sharing their gifts with others. Our
news is filled with the negative but
there are great things happening every
single day. I find ways to bring those
stories into my life by attending social
innovation events, reading inspirational
books, and participating in the global
+Acumen community to support people
doing great work in the world.
M: Tell me more about the positives
in your every day. What is it that you
love about what you do?
K: I love being able to connect puzzles
with social impact. It is such a quirky
combination. When I discovered that
I could create my own puzzles I was
afraid that it seemed empty on its
own. I wanted to do something in the
world so I thought hard about what I
could do to make a difference with my
puzzles. That’s when the magic began
to happen. My other passion is social
entrepreneurship and so I began to
dream about how I could bring social
good into my puzzle creation. It didn’t
take long to decide that I could partner
with charities and social enterprises to
create more impact by supporting their
work and at the same time increase
their audience engagement in a new
way - all while having some fun with
puzzles!
M: I’ve done your puzzles, they
are great fun! I know you deal with
a lot of different quotes for your
acrostics. Do you have a favourite
poem, quote or lyric that influences
your day to day?
K: Yes! It is a quote by Marianne
Williamson “Our deepest fear is not that
we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is
that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that
most frightens us. We ask ourselves,
‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are
you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the
world. There is nothing enlightened
about shrinking so that other people
won’t feel insecure around you. We
are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the
glory of God that is within us. It’s not
just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same. As we
are liberated from our own fear, our
presence automatically liberates
others.”
This quote has inspired me, helped me
overcome my imposter complex, and
allowed me to embrace my successes
with humility.
M: Well thank you Kirsten &
Coffee with Moe & Kirsten
Marianne Williamson for those
words! In closing, I would love
to know the sum of your life’s
philosophy. Can you indulge us?
K: I love exploring this thinking.
What I’ve arrived at is that life is
an opportunity to learn more about
ourselves, help others learn about
themselves, and create more good in
the world. This philosophy helps me
reframe all the things that happen to
me as learning experiences and takes
the pressure of the limited definition
of success and broadens it to include
tough moments in life too. It also
reminds me that I am not the only
player on the stage and it is my role
to make sure those around me have
opportunities to learn and grow. And
of course, that all of this learning and
growing is done with love at the centre.
M: And that brings us to a wonderful
place to leave things at today. Thank
you so much Kirsten for sharing your
personal insights, inspirations and
thoughts.
I would like to note, that as a
generous gift to Coffee with Moe
readers, you have created a puzzle
that I will post on the following page.
Thanks so much from me and the
rest of the readers for this very kind
gift.
K: Thanks Monique. I have such a
great time creating puzzles and sharing
them with people who enjoy them too.
So, thanks for the opportunity to do so!
M: Kirsten, it’s my pleasure.
Driven
“
Let yourself be
drawn by the
strange pull of
what you really
love. It will not
”
lead you astray.
- Rumi
When we think about being driven, we
often think of someone who has “what
it takes” to make it across the finish
line. Funny thing is... we all have what it
takes. Drive is not a gift or a talent, it’s a
decision. A decision based on knowing
yourself, your dreams, your desires,
your goals and knowing what makes you
happy.
I am not saying, of course, that drive
takes any of the hard work out of
reaching a goal*. Instead, it gives us
the traction to see things through. Drive
comes from finding clarity for our goal(s)
in both mind and heart, so that we can
weather any storm that stands between
us and our personal vision of_________.
(fill in the blank)
So, how is it that we can harness “what
it takes”? Here are a few ways you can
shift your life into drive.
CHOOSE ONE GOAL
What is it that you want? Do you know?
If there are many things, choose one. To
find what you really, really want: Journal
for it, meditate for it, think and think some
more for it, see what keeps coming up.
There are many, many things to want out
there in the world. Pick that one thing
that will feed you, excite you, fill you and
make you thrilled to be you.
Write down all the reasons why your
goal matters to you.(& only you)
For every why you’ve written, ask
yourself why again and go deeper. Do
this again and again until you believe
you’ve come to the core of your why(s).
This/these deep seated reason(s) will
give you something tangible to hang
onto when the excitement wears off and
choosing your goal reveals some of the
hard choices and hard work involved in
reaching for your stars.
STOP MAKING EXCUSES
Ouch, this one hurts, a lot!
We are all brilliant at creating a million
excuses regarding why we can’t do
some things. How radical would it be if
we decided that: We Can!
Don’t have a certain skill-set yet? No
problem. In this age of information,
what we need to succeed is a library, a
few key strokes, a class room or even
a coaching session away. Outsource,
Outsource, Outsource! Then dive in!
Seriously, you deserve the happiness of
your chosen goal.
If you find yourself being human and
making excuses, ask yourself:
How could my life improve if I followed
through?
How much do I really want this?
Is this goal something I actually want?(if
not, go back to whittling your whys)
Driven
“
The measure of a
man is not where
he stands in moments
of comfort
and convenience,
but where he
stands in times of
challenge and
”
controversy.
-Martin Luther King
I think Martin Luther King nailed it when
he said:
“The measure of a man is not where
he stands in moments of comfort and
convenience, but where he stands in
times of challenge and controversy.”
Some of the best things in life take
push, perseverance, ingenuity and the
making of lemonade when met with sour
situations.
BEFRIEND TIME
Time is not your enemy, but your
expectations might be. I find that a
sure fire drive killer is to over expect,
which forces you into the position of
under performance, self criticism and
prematurely giving up. That being said...
Lowering expectations is in no way an
alternative. For it has the ramifications
of not even getting started aka regret.
Instead, take a deep balancing breath
and get real with time. Realize that every
single person on this planet gets the
same 24 hours a day, so organize it and...
SCHEDULE YOUR GOAL
Ever notice that things that aren’t on
your agenda never get done? So true.
Squeeze out the space for excuses and
schedule yourself a reasonable amount
of time to just do it! This is your time, so
be sure to have fun. Every minute, every
mis-step and every success will bring you
closer to your goal.
CHOOSE YOU!
We live in a world of distractions, I get it,
it’s tough to stay focused. Not only that,
we have a lifetime of ‘should’s resting
heavily on our shoulders. All those words
that ring so solemnly and ceaselessly in
our heads about how we ought to live
our lives. Personally, I think the best
lesson we can teach others, including our
children, is to actively work on ourselves.
By nourishing our needs, we become
the best we can be for others. You know,
same idea as grabbing for your oxygen
mask first. A concept that works just as
well on land as it does in the sky.
From concept into reality, when you start
making the conscious choices involved in
harnessing your inner drive, you too will
find that you have exactly what it takes to
make it across any finish line you choose.
*For the purpose of this article, the word goal is used
as a blanket term for all goals, dreams and desires.

For the Birds
Life can get pretty hectic (a lot of the time) and while I could wax poetic about the
crazy of busy all day, I can also cut to the quick. (Let’s go for option B shall we? )
I think we impose a lot of our hectic onto ourselves. Quite often in the name of
success, money, love, happiness etc. (I am as guilty as the next guy) And while I
agree that goals are important, brave & necessary to thwart stagnation. Lofty goals
simply can’t get accomplished every day, or month, or even year, so we sometimes
need the help of other inspiration to keep driving us forward.
Enter in the small stuff.
Now, when I talk “small” & “Inspiration”, I am not talking about new smaller goals,
or side projects Aren’t we already busy enough? I am talking about spontaneous
happenings like: The joy in a bright shiny day; the toe tapping goodness of a
perfect song at the perfect time; an unexpected personal win or a sparkling
interaction with the world (etc). When you are balancing that eye on the prize, with
the noticing & celebrating of many smaller joys. Life truly becomes a magnet for
daily greatness of all sizes.
So... I ask you. The next moment you find yourself caught up in thought, switch
your focus to noticing which small everyday wonders have gifted themselves to you
lately. I bet there are lots, once you start thinking of it. Perhaps those unexpected
wee things that sneak into your happy place might just pile up high enough to
become their own very BIG things in the end.
I find it amazing to reflect and realize that it has been
a year since I started this whole Coffee with Moe minimagazine
(CwM). Can you believe CwM all started with
a dream about connecting with you in way that seemed
more like time together over a virtual cuppa. A desire
for us to connect, a desire for me to share stories about
amazing women doing things their own way, a desire
for me to explore my creativity.
I am so glad that you have joined me in this journey,
for it has taken quite the drive to polish up and present
each issue for your in-box each quarter. Since I can
foresee many many issues in our future, I would love
to hear from you regarding the bits you like, so I can
deliver more of that.
Can’t wait to hear from you.
With heart,
You may say that I’m
a dreamer, but I’m not
the only one. I hope
someday you’ll join us
and the world can live
as one.
