This 30-acre garden apartment complex was the result of a collaboration between developer<br />
Gerson Baker, architecture firm Wurster, Bernardi & Emmons, and <strong>Lawrence</strong> <strong>Halprin</strong> &<br />
Associates. At the center is a meandering lake, which contains a fountain at one end. Six<br />
swimming pools are located throughout the complex – a central pool adjacent to the lake, and<br />
five in enclosed courtyards. Mature trees line the periphery of the complex, separating it from<br />
the surrounding streets and sidewalks.<br />
Though no longer intact, the pool originally included a glass mosaic on its floor and an<br />
abstract sculpture that protruded from the water’s surface. Both elements were designed by<br />
Bay Area artist Ray Rice.<br />
