AMELIA
Age 6 | Stage IV High Risk Neuroblastoma
Little Warrior Amelia is a six year old girl fighting Stage IV Neuroblastoma. In
October of 2014, Amelia was having lower left quadrant pain, misdiagnosed
with pneumonia and treated with antibiotics. When the pain came back in
January, they confirmed and removed a Glioneuroblastoma tumor that was
resting on her spine and aorta. After being told that there was a 5% chance
of her cancer returning, her six month MRI not only showed that the tumor
had regrown, but also had spread to her spine, pelvis, shoulder and skull. She
was then diagnosed with High Risk Stage IV Neuroblastoma.
Amelia has been through five rounds of chemotherapy including several
different chemo drugs, a stem cell harvest, two surgeries, admissions due to
neutropenia, immunotherapy with Ironotecan and Temodar, a Bone Marrow
Transplant, twelve rounds of radiation and has just completed six months of
intense Immunotherapy.
In addition, her central line has prevented her from the privilege of getting
wet for more than a year, she’s been sedated numerous times for scans
and procedures, she’s received a number of blood and platelet transfusions,
weekly bandage changes, more shots and meds that any little girl should ever
receive, vomiting, diarrhea, thrush, anxiety and pain.
However, throughout this entire difficult journey, Amelia has maintained her
strength and determination. She smiles every day, loves to play with her
brothers, help and give things to other fellow cancer warriors and worries
more about others than herself. She enjoys fashion and loves to learn, sing
and dance. She also loves music and adores Jason Mraz. In fact, she listens to
Mraz every day, as his music has truly played an important part in her healing
process. Amelia wants to make a difference and is an inspiration!
