The Thursday Morning Book Club
We’ll read and discuss these books, selected by the members.
Some questions to consider might be: How well has the author
made his/her point(s)? What surprised you about a character(s) or
the ending? How does the story relate to today’s ideas and lifestyles?
Bring your own beverage, class members provide snacks.
February 9
One For The Money by Janet Evanovich. Meet Stephanie Plum,
bounty hunter with attitude. Out of work and out of money,
Stephanie blackmails her bail bondsman cousin, Vinnie, into hiring
her as an apprehension agent. Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli,
a former vice cop on the run, and her on-again-off-again boyfriend.
March 9
The Black House, by Peter May. Two teenagers disappear into a
ramshackle boat shed, but their hurried passion is interrupted
by the gruesome discovery of a body hanging from a beam. The
murder bears the hallmarks of a recent killing in Edinburgh.
Fin Macleod, an Edinburgh cop, is sent to investigate. He is
grateful for the respite: just a month before tragedy changed his
happy life as husband and father, and that life was over for good.
As the murder of Angel Macritchie gradually unravels, Fin must
confront some terrible truths about his young life.
April 13
The Wedding, by Nicholas Sparks. Wilson Lewis must face the
painful truth that the romance has gone out of his marriage and
it is his fault. Unable to express his true feelings, he spent too little
time at home and too much at the office. Now his daughter is
about to marry, and his wife is about to leave him. But his love for
Jane has grown over the years; he will go to extraordinary lengths
to win back his wife of thirty years.
May 11
The Crossing by Michael Connelly. Harry Bosch left the LAPD
before he could be fired. He hired Defense Attorney Mickey Haller
to sue the department for forcing him out. Mickey asks him to
help on one of his cases, and suddenly Harry is in the middle of
a particularly puzzling murder mystery. This time Harry is working
for the defense. The prosecution seems to have a cast-iron case,
but having crossed over to the dark side, as his former colleagues
would put it, Harry is in danger of betraying the very principles
he’s lived by his entire career.
