"Because there is a threat."<br />
The relief that poured off of him was palpable. "Yes. You understand."<br />
And seeing how important that was to him, and seeing how significant it seemed to<br />
be to him, he finally seemed human to me. Just for that one moment, which really wasn't<br />
much more than an expression on his face, an emotional ripple, he was no different than me.<br />
Then he turned and walked through the wall.<br />
If there's any one thing that will keep me up tonight, it's not the barrage of things I<br />
glimpsed today, and it's not the implications of some of his statements about alternate<br />
worlds and infinite possibility, but is instead the effort of trying to imagine what, exactly,<br />
we're going to have to save the world from.<br />
These things I've seen so far, these glimpses of realities I never knew existed, have<br />
been met without so much as a second's hesitation by the Commander. Whatever's coming<br />
has him so scared that he's got to enlist the help of each and every person on the planet.<br />
So… no pressure.<br />
At least I've got a good seat for the show.<br />
