A community archive documents, records and explores community heritage (often on a grassroots level), in which community participation, control and/or ownership of the project is essential. In the case of the LA&M, this means that we are, and remain, an independent nonprofit organization, unaffiliated with a university or institutional repository, that is primarily sustained by the Leather / BDSM / kink / fetish communities while also being guided by archival, museum, and library best practices and standards. Through our collections and exhibitions, we reflect the unique historical record regarding the formation and development of alternative sex cultures and practices, including the interests, needs, participation, and priorities of diverse Leather / BDSM / kink / fetish communities across the country and world. That said, the work we do wouldn’t be possible without all of our supporters— your memberships, financial donations, event attendance, and volunteer and internship work has truly made us the institution we are today, and we are so honored and grateful for each and every one of you. While we would like to name every supporter the LA&M has had over the past 25 years, here we are focusing on the last five years of the institution. Thank you 74
