FABRICATED PARTS<br />
SUBFRAME<br />
The original MX5 subframe is very<br />
stiff and strong but it is heavy and<br />
does not have the space around it<br />
to accommodate the V6. The<br />
tubular design of XP1 solved the<br />
space issue but lacked stiffness.<br />
Our new design uses laser cut<br />
profiles and tubular members to<br />
give us better stiffness and lighter<br />
weight. Suspension geometry is<br />
MX5 Mk2 so those fitting to the kit<br />
to a Mk1 will also enjoy this popular<br />
upgrade<br />
ENGINE MOUNTS<br />
These are also laser cut profiles,<br />
welded assemblies for stiffness and<br />
light weight.<br />
We reuse the standard MX5 rubber<br />
engine mounts which are also<br />
available in stiffer grades if desired
CNC PARTS<br />
ADAPTER PLATE<br />
The interface between the MX5<br />
gearbox and the AJ30 ,<br />
accuracy and precision are vital<br />
for correct alignment of the<br />
flywheel and gearbox input shaft.<br />
CNC machined from T6<br />
Aluminium and hard anodised for<br />
corrosion resistance.<br />
Precision Dowel Pins are provided<br />
for accurate alignment and easy<br />
assembly<br />
FLYWHEEL<br />
CNC machined in the UK from<br />
forged chromoly steel.<br />
It is dynamically balanced and<br />
has an integral ring gear for high<br />
rpm safety<br />
FRONT PULLEY<br />
CNC machined from steel, the<br />
pulley piggy-backs onto the mass<br />
damper pulley and provides drive<br />
for the PAS Pump
CASTING<br />
SUMP<br />
The original cast sump is a<br />
structural component and<br />
contributes to the engine block<br />
stiffness. Our sump is also an<br />
aluminium casting to fulfil that role<br />
and has been designed to work<br />
within the tight package<br />
constraints.<br />
A casting also allows us design<br />
flexibility which we have used to<br />
our advantage. On XP1 the<br />
position of the Jaguar starter<br />
motor clashed with the MX5<br />
clutch slave cylinder. It also made<br />
routing the exhaust very<br />
challenging.<br />
As can be seen in this image, on<br />
the production version, the starter<br />
motor now nestles alongside the<br />
sump, freeing up much needed<br />
space for exhaust but also<br />
allowing us to retain the reliable<br />
and robust standard clutch slave<br />
cylinder
INDUCTION<br />
PLENUMS<br />
Manufactured from lightweight,<br />
strong and beautiful Carbon Fibre,<br />
these plenums are a significant<br />
improvement over the ITBs of XP1.<br />
In the MXV6 installation the ITBs are<br />
heavily compromised by the<br />
packaging constraints.<br />
The new approach overcomes all<br />
these compromises. Much longer,<br />
tapered runners will significantly<br />
improve power and torque.<br />
Furthermore, a cold air induction kit<br />
is also under development to<br />
further improve efficiency<br />
Computer flow analysis has been<br />
used to optimise the design and<br />
ensure good, even cylinder filling
EXHAUST<br />
MANIFOLDS<br />
Manufactured in the UK, our<br />
manifolds are T304 stainless<br />
steel. 1.5 inch diameter,<br />
mandrel bend tubes, TIG<br />
welded. They bring a significant<br />
improvement in flow and<br />
quality over the original XP1<br />
headers. They follow the profile<br />
of the engine block to<br />
maximise packaging space<br />
particularly around the steering<br />
column<br />
SYSTEM<br />
From the manifolds back the full<br />
system is in 2 inch stainless tube<br />
and includes a high flow sports<br />
catalytic converter and twin exit<br />
tail pipes
COOLING<br />
EWP<br />
Cooling for the V6 is managed by<br />
a Davies Craig electric water<br />
pump<br />
The main benefit of the EWP is<br />
that it eliminates the cumbersome<br />
belt driven pump that is fitted to<br />
the Jaguar engine and with it the<br />
need for numerous drive and idler<br />
pulleys. A happy by-product are<br />
these additional advantages:<br />
• Increased Power and Torque<br />
• Increased cooling capability<br />
• Eliminating Heat Soak<br />
• Better control of engine<br />
temperature<br />
• Flexible options for pump<br />
control<br />
• Run-on after engine switch off<br />
to eliminate hot-spots<br />
Control and modulation of the<br />
pump and switching of the fan is<br />
all handled by the <strong>Rocketeer</strong> ECU<br />
so ne need for a separate<br />
controller<br />
The standard radiator has<br />
sufficient capacity to cool the V6<br />
in normal and spirited driving. If<br />
you intend to use your MXV6<br />
extensively on track you may<br />
want to consider a higher<br />
capacity radiator which are<br />
widely available.<br />
Custom made silicon hoses<br />
complete the circuit with as few<br />
joins and clips as possible for a<br />
neat ‘OE’ installation
ENGINE MANAGMENT<br />
ECU<br />
If the AJ30 engine is the heart of the<br />
transformation then this is the brains.<br />
Based on the increasingly popular and<br />
highly acclaimed ME221by Motorsport<br />
Electronics our ECU is bespoke for this<br />
engine and installation and is<br />
compatible with all the standard MX5<br />
instruments.<br />
