Blowers
We offer two different axial blowers with
external rotor motors for the air propulsion.
The housing and crescent wing of the
crescent wing, silent running blower
are made from aluminium diecasting. The
aerodynamic design results in low operating
noise levels and reduces the mechanical
running noises. This makes this unit perfect
for the operation in noise sensitive rooms.
The aluminium wide wing blower
has a rotor housing which is made from
aluminium diecasting and aluminium wide
wings. This blower is suitable for less
demanding room applications, i.e.
warehouses.
All blowers are balanced in two planes
according to DIN-ISO 1940 T1, balancing
quality is G 6,3. The contact protection is
according to DIN EN 294.
The variants and technical data to the external
rotor motors are listed on page 28.
Heat exchanger
For the heat transfer you may choose from
heat exchangers made from copperaluminium
and steel.
CL 2000 with exhaust vents

Copper-aluminium heat exchangers
are made from aluminium fins and copper pipes which
are mechanically widened and arranged in an alternating
pattern. The fin sections are enclosed by a flange made
from zinc galvanised sheet metal. The connecting pipes
are made from threaded pipe according to DIN 2440.
They are suitable for PWW with 110 °C and 16 bar
continuous operating pressure.
Advantages:
low weight and high
heating capacity
Disadvantages:
not suited for steam, thermo oil,
and heavily soiled air
Steel heat exchangers
are offered in two designs.
The continuous zinc galvanised design
made from round seamless steel pipes with zinc
galvanised steel sheet metal fins. Homogeny connection
of pipe and fins for best heat transfer through the inside
widening.
Thick walled sheet metal collector with zinc galvanised
coating for protection.
These units are released for PWW, PHW
and thermo oil up to 150° C and 10 bar
continuous operating pressure. For
steam up to 150° C and 4.5 bar
continuous operating pressure.
The dip-zinc galvanised design
made from oval-fin-pipes and thick walled welded sheet
metal collector.
These units are released for PWW, PHW and thermo oil
up to 200° C and 26 bar continuous operating pressure.
For steam up to 200° C and 15 bar continuous operating
pressure.
Heating capacity and dimensions for dip-zinc galvanised
designs per request!
Advantages:
Especially suited for installations with high heating
medium temperatures and heavily soiled air; cleaning with
high-pressure cleaners and compressed air possible.
The housing openings for the heating medium connections
are sealed with rubber gaskets, the onsite connecting
pipes have to be installed with venting and draining valves.
The heating medium connections (dimensions see page
11) and the wiring box for the electrical connection of the
blower are always located on one side. The heating
medium connections can be positioned right or left by
simply turning the Combi-air heater by 180°. The heat
exchanger always has to be connected in counter flow
when operating with water. The steam connection is
basically positioned on top.
Planning Information
CAP-CL (see also our questionnaire on page 39).
Designing of air heating installations with
PWW-air heaters
- accurate calculation of the heat consumption
- determination of the overall air capacity for the air
heating installation
- selection of units according to the determined
power requirements
- checking the depth of penetration of the air flow
- air flow deflection of the heated air into
the heated area
- controlling the energy supply
The heat consumption
should be calculated very carefully following the DIN 4701,
this is very important when rebuilding old installations.
It is very important to avoid an over-dimensioning.
A determined Minimum Air Capacity is required in order
to achieve a consistent heat distribution. The calculation
of this required air capacity depends on many different
factors and we recommend that you use an air circulation
value per hour which is 3 to 4 times the volume of the
heated room.
After you have the determined heat consumption and the
required Minimum Air Capacity you can preselect the unit
size and type (table on pages 20-27).
The following applies:
The higher the amount of units the more even the heat
can be distributed!
The Depth of penetration of the air flow depends on the
room geometry and can be checked using the installation
plan. Choose the depth of penetration in a way, that all
areas of the room can be supplied with warm air. This
means that the air exit velocity, outlet temperature, and
unit placing are selected in a way, that the air flow reaches
the floor (when using ceiling mounted units) or the facing
wall, or the air flow of another heating unit which is placed
on the opposite side.
Rule of thumb:
Air flow depth of penetration = 3.0 - 3.5 x height of room.
Since the air exiting temperature of air heating
installations is always higher than the room temperature
and the warm air has a lower density, the air flow is
deflected upwards. Consider this fact when placing the
units and selecting the air outlets. The air exiting
temperature should be about 30 to 40°C.
8
Please make sure that the air flow is not directed onto
persons that are within the heated area since even a warm
air flow over a long period of time can be disturbing.
Assembly examples with different air outlets:
When installing the heating unit to the wall choose a
height, that guarantees an even air and heat distribution
utilizing an effective depth of penetration. We recommend
an outlet height of approximately 3-4 m (Fig. 1 a. 8).
Greater heights should not be selected when installing
the heating unit to the wall, since there is the risk that the
heating unit is not capable of supplying enough heat to
the entire area. Please avoid to blow warm air directly
onto equipment or machines.
The ideal suspension height for ceiling installations is
between 3.0 and 4.0 m when using unit size 1 and 2 and
between 4.0 and 5.0 m for unit size 3 and 4 (Fig. 2).
If you can not avoid greater suspension heights we
recommend the installation of a blow nozzle, which propels
the air flow correctly into the desired area (Fig. 3).
Avoid large temperature differences between air outlet
and room temperature. We recommend the installation of
horizontal
rotational flow outlets or induction shutters if the usage
of high heating fluid temperatures i.e. hot water, steam or
thermo oil does not allow to keep the temperature
difference small.
Suspension heights below 3.0 m require air distributors
to deflect the outlet air laterally (Fig. 4).
The control system
of the installation has a major influence on the economics
of the entire system. The easiest variant is a simple On-
Off-control for the blowers which works with a preselected
speed and switches in dependency of the room
temperature, or an automatic two stage switching with
the control box ASTRD 2Y/D.
Especially during the transition periods this control does
not allow for a continuous blower operation which results
in an inconsistent air flow and uneven temperature
distribution.
We recommend an outside air dependent control of the
heating circuit supply temperature with the following
advantages:
- Lower piping heat losses
- Long run times of the blowers
- Small temperature differences between ceiling and
floor
- Lower heating costs
The Klimatec preheating control offers a very economic
operation. During times of reduced operation and during
the preheating phase, air with a higher velocity is blown
into the heated area. The attached servo motor for the
preheating shutters brings the shutters back into the nominal
position after the desired temperature is reached.
This reduces the preheating time after each reduced
heating phase and results in a significant energy savings.
9

Planning Information and Unit Combinations
Klimatec combination air heaters are designed in a way,
that the blower motor for ceiling installations is placed in
front (in direction of air flow) of the heat exchanger. During
blower idle times the uprising convection heat can have
negative effects on the motor. When operating with heating
fluid temperatures above 150°C a motorised shutter has
to be installed or the heating fluid circuit has to be
interrupted with a solenoid valve (Fig. 8). Even units with
an outside air connection should be equipped with a
shutter if the system runs without a mixing air box. This
prevents cold air from penetrating when the unit is turned
off.
Combination air heaters that are running on steam energy
offer limited regulation capabilities only. These units should
be regulated via the air system and not by regulating the
steam circulation system.
Combination air heaters that are operating with outside
air must be protected against freezing through the
installation of an antifreeze monitoring unit.
Air capacity in m³/h
size 4
Example:
Model: CL/SL 131.3
Heating capacity: Q H =8,1 kW
Heating medium: PHW 110/70°C
Air inlet temperature: tL1= -5°C
DtWm = tw1 + tw2
2
-
DtWm = 110 + 70
2
DtW = tw1 - tw2
DtW = 110 - 70 = 40K
tL1 + 5 = 95K
The correction factor is obtained from the
intersection of the straights ?t Wm = 105 K
and Dt W = 40 K.
The heating capacity correction factor obtained
from the adjacent graph ist K Q = 1.7.
Required heating capacity:
Q X = Q H x K Q
Q X = 8,1 x 1,7 = 13,77 kW
Example:
Model: CL/SL 131.3
Nominal air capacity: V L = 2200 m³/h
Heating capacity: Q H = 8,1 kW
Air inlet temperature: tL1 = + 20°C
Incorporation of an air filter and mixing air
box reduces the air capacity to 1450 m³/h.
The air capacity correction factor C L is
obtained from:
CL/SL = VX 1450
= = 0,66
VL 2200
From the graph the air capacity factor
C = 0.66 gives a heating capacity factor
L
C = 0.79.
Q
The new heating capacity ist:
Q = Q x C X H Q
Q = 8,1 x 0,79 = 6,39 kW
X
Example:
Model: CL/SL 131.3
Nominal air capacity: VL = 2200 m³/h
In the graph the propulsion distance = 19 m
is found. At the intersection of unit
characteristic CL 1.. and Vertical of
V L = 2200 m³/h
By fitting a filter air capacity can be reduced
to 1600 m³/h (see page 18).
The new propulsion distance found for
V L = 1600 m³/h is 13.5 m.

Outlet shutter
Outlet nozzle
Example
Modell CL/SL 433.3 with outlet nozzle
(average speed)
For an air volume fo 5125 m³/h and an
outlet temperature of Dt = 20 K above
room temperature the admissible
suspension height is 6.5 m.
What is the admissible height for a Dt of
30 K?
The formula for other Dt reads
H HO 20
Dt
≈
H 6,5 20 6,5 x 0,18165 5,3
30
≈ ≈ ≈
For Dt = 30 K the admissible suspension
Height is 5.3 m.
With radiant ventilation the entire air content
of a room is placed into motion by the inlet air
current, resulting in a room-filling flow with air
velocity at a maximum near the floor and the
ceiling, diminishing to zero towards the centre.
This flow pattern applies up to a max.
room depth of 3.5 x room height (depth of
penetration). For larger room depths serveral
flow patterns (rolls) will evolve and these have
a diameter of approximately room height and
rotate in opposite directions. These secondary
“rolls” have only an indirect share in the
exchange of air in relation to the primary roll.
In such cases air should be supplied from
two sides. The same phenomenon occurs with
underdrafts etc. It should be noted that the
primary air current is not affected by such an
obstruction.
Technical-Data - Modell size 1...
air capacity and additional resistance water resistance
Example:
Model size CL 111 Nominal air volume 2200 m³/h
Point A
Incorporation of an air filter will reduce the air volume to
1600 m³/h
Point B
Incorporation of an air filter and mixing air box will result in an
air volume fo 1450 m³/h.
Point C
If accessories are fitted the air capacity is found at the
intersection of the resistance charasteristic with the unit
Heating capacity and outlet temperatures
charasteristic. If several accessories are fitted the local
resistance is the sum of all individual distances. The new
operating point is found at the intersection of the resulting
resistance characteristic with the unit characteristic. See
example.
F Resistance characteristic for air filter (dust-free) or rotational
flow outlet (louvre setting below 50°).
Z Resistance characteristic for mixing air box, safety shutter,
outlet nozzle, air diffuser, external air grille, roof cowl or
air capacity and additional resistance water resistance
If accessories are fitted the air capacity is found at the
intersection of the resistance charasteristic with the unit
charasteristic. If several accessories are fitted the local
resistance is the sum of all individual distances. The new
operating point is found at the intersection of the resulting
resistance characteristic with the unit characteristic. See
example.
F Resistance characteristic for air filter (dust-free) or
rotational flow outlet (louvre setting below 50°).
Z Resistance characteristic for mixing air box, safety
shutter, outlet nozzle, air diffuser, external air grille, roof
cowl or rotational flow outlet (louvre setting 50 - 90°C).
Description of the control units in modular design
Control units are designed in modular plastic design for
wall installation.
We offer 6 models:
- LW 3202/LW 3203 for 2 or 3-speeds
- LW 3202/LW 3203 AH for 2 or 3-speeds
with additional control for preheating control.
- LW 3202.ex1 for motors in Ex-design
Air circulation operation
- LW 3202.ex2 for motors in Ex-design
Outside air operation
The speed adjuster is also the On-Off-switch.
The system is designed in a way, that the unit can not
restart on its own once the full motor protection trips and
after power loss is initiated through the control relay. To
restart the system after a power loss the main switch
has to be turned to the “O” position (Fig. 14) or the system
has to be equipped with the optional automatic restart
feature. For the operation with Ex-protected motors the
2-stage control units LW 3202.ex1 for circulation units or
LW 3202.ex2 for circulation units and outside air units
(for Open/Close air mixing control) must be installed.
Does a room temperature control or similar equipment
interrupt the blower operation, the blower restarts
Legend control unit
The control unit (1) contains the following:
1 Klimatec control unit type LW 3202.1 / LW 3202.1 AH
2 Speed selector 2 or 3-stages
3 Fault indicator light
4 Control fuse
automatically. The mixing air box is actuated by a shutter
servo motor, and with a switch you may select between
“Circulation” and “Outside air” or continuously adjust the
air mixing shutter by hand. When operating in “Outside
air Operation”, and in case of frost danger the motor is
reversed automatically to close the shutters. The air mixing
shutter remains in the respective position when the room
temperature control turns off the blowers.
The shutter works fully automatic. The shutter opens
when the blower is running and closes when the blower
does not operate. In case of power loss the shutter
remains in the current opening position.
preselected speed stage on and off. The restart after a
motor fault is made by setting the speed selector back to
zero, after power loss the system restarts automatically.
