The number of stamps, post bands, letter cards, post cards, &c, issued
to postmasters during the year was 171,706,450, as compared with
171,673,770 in 1896, being an increase of 32,680, and almost the whole
postal revenue is derived from this source, the amount received from
the sale of stamps, post cards, letter cards, &c, in 1897 having been
$4,232,701.
