Preparing any vessel for a voyage involves imagining a lot of ‘what ifs’. You lash, stow and pad to the extreme, hoping that you make it through the trip with as little maintenance to do on the other side as possible. You try
to imagine how the boat will move in swell and, more importantly, how different parts of the boat will move, and what you can do to protect them. Mariquita is by no means a boat for the ocean. She’s at home on the flat
water of the Clyde and the Mediterranean. With a heavy rig, and a spoon bow, we are careful when choosing our weather windows.
