From the Programme Editor Hello everyone. Well we are on cloud 9 at the moment with just 1 defeat in the last 8 games— not bad going!! The last couple of games have been great games for the neutral but nail biting stuff for the faithful. But one thing about this side of late is that they try right up to and beyond the 90 minutes and I think they know how much this is appreciated by the fans. Hicham Akhazzan is now out on loan to Lordswood to help him regain his fitness and his debut for them last week helped them defeat Rushtall in the Kent Reliance Trophy second round. I see that one of our past managers, Gary Abbott, has just been sacked by Fisher who are languishing at the bottom of the South East Counties League. I’m fairly sure that Gary’s budget at Fisher was miniscule so he had an uphill task. This piece of news gives me a reason to tell you something of the Current Fisher FC. The older fans will remember Fisher Athletic who played us in the FA Cup back in September 2007 when Justin Edinburgh, now Gillingham’s manager of course. They swept us aside (my words in the match report at the time) with a 7-1 victory. To make it worse (could it have been worse!) Sky Sports had selected the match as their FA Cup match of the day and continued to show all of the goals throughout the next day!! Mark Lovell, who may well feature in Herne Bay’s team today, and Lee Browning, were both in the Brickies team that Day. Fisher Athletic F.C were playing in the Conference South at the time, groundsharing at Champion Hill Stadium, the home of Dulwich Hamlet. They were wound up by the High Court, after failing to repay their debts, on 13 May 2009. but on 29 May 2009 a new club, Fisher F.C., was formed. The new club was elected to the Kent League for the 2009–10 season but have struggled for much of that time. Just a short note about our visit to Lewes. I noticed that their assistant manager Ross Standen was our goalkeeper back in season 2001/2 when Lewes beat us in an FA cup replay ! Finally the Sittingbourne Heritage Centre has produced an excellent calendar featuring old pics of Sittingbourne, they are available from the club at £5. Please see me or John to purchase one. Peter
