Introduction
In order to continuously
improve our educational
activities, we have designed a
very comprehensive Medical
Education Programme
which offers a wide range of
competency based activities
to support our participants
learning needs.
Our courses are designed
to address three levels of
competency based learning.
Level 1
Participants
will acquire
extensive clinical
knowledge
by observing
surgeries and
training in
Naples lab.
Level 2
Participants will
more in depth
knowledge
on exclusive
techniques,
post- operative
management.
Level 3
Participants
will acquire
knowledge on
basic and general
principles.
It is critical for the successful implementation of this education strategy
that delegates are select whit careful consideration and matching to the
appropriate level of course. This facilitates a cohesive standard during
the meeting, enables discussion to be held at the right level and, most
importantly, achieve better learning outcome measures.
Our goal is to provide tailored learning opportunities which include
hands-on workshops and extensive case discussions, designed to help
improve clinician proficiency and patient outcomes. Our programmes
are facilitated by qualified faculty who provides high teaching standard
worldwide.
Arthrex Compliance Policy
We always compete vigorously. However, we must take care to avoid
any unlawful or unethical conduct. Such conduct undermines the trust
that our customers place in us and their trust is the foundation of our
success. As a manufacturer of medical devices, we follow the applicable
industry codes including AdvaMed (which governs interactions with
HCPs in the US), EucoMed (governing Europe), as well as others. In
some regions, local laws and industry codes may be more stringent than
this Code; in those cases, the most stringent laws or codes apply. If an
event involves individuals from more than one country (for example,
an HCP from one country receiving product training in another), you
should take care to comply with the requirements of both countries,
to the extent they apply. The purpose of these industry laws and codes
is to ensure medical decisions are based on the best interest of the
patient and that the collaborative business relationships of medical
device manufacturers meet high ethical standards and are conducted
with appropriate transparency and in compliance with applicable laws,
regulations, and government guidance.
We carry out our duties and responsibilities in a fair,
objective manner. We make legal and ethical business
decisions in the best interest of our company, free from
personal or external interests. Conflicts of interest can
occur anytime your personal interests might benefit from
your actions or influence as an Arthrex® employee.
Outside business interests with our vendors, suppliers,
customers or competitors are a particular cause of
concern. Having outside business interests that interfere
with your obligation to devote your time and attention
to your job responsibilities, or behaving in a manner
that reflects adversely on Arthrex, can result in a conflict
of interest. If an employee or their immediate family
member(s) have any outside interests as noted above,
the employee is obligated to disclose this information
to their manager when consistent with local laws. It is
important both to disclose relevant facts before you, or
your immediate family members, become involved in or
acquire a financial interest in an outside business and
to take any actions we require to resolve any potential
conflict of interest that is identified.
Who is responsible for it?
Sponsor - Arthrex Subs or Distributors
HCP - Healthcare Professional
The following guidelines should lead your decision on:
I. Conflicts of Interest:
II.
Gifts:
Gifts by Arthrex employees or agents to customers
are generally prohibited. There is an exception to this
general rule for: 1) Occasional modest gifts to Health
Care Professionals (HCPs), but only if the gift benefits
patients or serves a genuine educational function for
HCPs, such as medical textbooks or anatomical models
used for educational purposes. (See AdvaMed Code of
Ethics on Interactions with Health Care Professionals,
Section IX., Educational Items; Prohibition of Gifts,

Effective July 1, 2009) A company may not give HCPs
any type of noneducational branded promotional items,
even if the item is of minimal value and related to the
HCP’s work or for the benefit of patients. Examples of
noneducational branded promotional items include pens,
notepads, mugs, and other items that have a company’s
name, logo, or the name or logo of one of its Medical
Technologies. Companies also may not provide HCPs with
gifts such as cookies, wine, flowers, chocolates, gift baskets,
holiday gifts or cash or cash equivalents. In addition, gifts
from customers (HCPs, Government Officials, vendors,
suppliers, other third parties) to Arthrex® employees
are not permitted. Employees may not solicit or accept,
encourage, or allow others to offer, make, or receive
improper payments, whether directly or indirectly, in cash
or in kind. These restrictions apply even if the exchange of
items of value can be deemed as normal business practice
in a particular country or culture
You must also be cautious about contacting any elected
Government Official regarding matters that could
be viewed as lobbying. If you are in doubt about the
appropriateness of a situation, contact the Compliance
Department before you act. This section is not intended
to address the legitimate practice of providing HCPs with
products for evaluation and demonstration purposes,
which is addressed in The AdvaMed Code, Section XII.
I. HCP Travel/Lodging/Meals:
We must provide education and training to HCPs on the
safe and effective use of our products. If events involve
out-of-town travel, we may pay for reasonable travel and
modest accommodation costs in accordance with relevant
laws, industry codes, and company policy. Programs and
II.
events should be conducted in settings that are conducive
to the effective transmission of information. These may
include clinical, educational, conference, or other settings,
such as hotels or other commercially available meeting
facilities. Educational event venues must be modest in
setting and be secondary to the educational component.
Venues may not be an entertainment location. Medical
education functions and sales/marketing functions must
be kept separate. The Medical Education department
must drive all education and training activities and only
HCPs with signed, current contracts may participate in
consulting and instructor activities as directed by Medical
Education. Conferences sponsored by national, regional,
or specialty medical associations may also be supported in
line with applicable laws and industry codes. The Arthrex
Compliance and Code of Ethics Policy governs the limited
circumstances of employee spending regarding meals for
HCPs. Those employees approved to accommodate meals
must abide by certain rules. Arthrex may occasionally
offer a modest meal as part of an educational presentation
or a business discussion. The focus of these activities is
directed to an informational presentation or discussion.
Venues that feature entertainment or recreation, and
attendance by spouses or guests, are not permitted. The
cost of a meal must be “modest” in expense. Exclusive
of the business meal, payment for any entertainment of
HCPs is strictly prohibited. Any and all HCP expenses
associated with our business interactions must be
accurately recorded and reported. (See Arthrex® HCP
Travel/Lodging/Meals Policy Guidelines)
Charitable Contributions:
Any donation shall be motivated by bona fide charitable
purposes, such as supporting indigent care, patient

education, public education, or the sponsorship of events
where the proceeds are intended for charitable purposes.
The provision of a charitable donation shall not be related
directly or indirectly to the volume or value of purchases
made by, or anticipated from, the recipient or any member
of the recipient’s organization. Sales personnel shall
not participate in, or in any way influence, the decision
to make a particular donation, but may offer limited
input about the suitability of a proposed donation if so
requested by the Compliance Department. (See Arthrex
Charitable Donation Policy under the “Grants” section
of the Arthrex website - www.arthrex.com )
