Giovanni CORAZZA<br />

Giovanni Emanuele Corazza, PhD, is a Full Professor in Telecommunications at the Alma Mater<br />

Studiorum University of Bologna, the oldest academic institution of the Western World. Since<br />

2012, he has been a Member of the University of Bologna Board of Directors, the highest<br />

governance body in the institution. He was Head of the Department of Electronics, Computer<br />

Science and Systems (DEIS) from 2009-2012 and Chairman of the School for<br />

Telecommunications from 2000-2003. He is the President of the Scientific Council of the<br />

Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, and a Member of the Marconi Society Board of Directors.<br />

Giovanni E. Corazza is the founder of the Marconi Institute for Creativity, a body created as a<br />

joint initiative of the Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi and the University of Bologna, to<br />

investigate and divulgate all of the most research scientific evidence on the creative thinking<br />

process in humans and in artificially intelligent machines. Since 2014 he has been Vice-<br />

Chairman of NetWorld2020, the European Technology Platform dedicated to the future<br />

evolution of communication networks, and Member of the Board of the 5G Infrastructure<br />

Association, the private side of the 5G-PPP with the European Commission. Giovanni E. Corazza<br />

was the Chairman of the Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems Task Force (ASMS TF), and Founder<br />

and Chairman of the Integral Satcom Initiative (ISI), a European Technology Platform devoted to<br />

Satellite Communications. He was a co-founder of Mavigex S.r.l., a spin-off company dedicated<br />

to the development of innovative smartphone applications. During his career he also worked<br />

for Qualcomm (California, USA) and COM DEV (Ontario, Canada). He has been the principal<br />

investigator in more than 20 European projects funded by the European Commission and by the<br />

European Space Agency. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Eminence and<br />

Genius. From 1997-2012, he has served as Editor for Communication Theory and Spread<br />

Spectrum for the IEEE Transactions on Communications. He is the author of two books and of<br />

more than 300 papers on diversified topics in wireless and satellite communications, mobile<br />

radio channel characterization, Internet of Things, navigation and positioning, estimation and<br />

synchronization, spread spectrum and multi-carrier transmission, scientific creative thinking.<br />

Giovanni E. Corazza received the Marconi International Fellowship Young Scientist Award in<br />

1995, the IEEE 2009 Satellite Communications Distinguished Service Award, the 2013 Newcom#<br />

Best Paper Award, the 2002 IEEE VTS Best System Paper Award, the Best Paper Award at IEEE<br />

ISSSTA’98, at IEEE ICT2001, and at ISWCS 2005. He has been the General Chairman of the IEEE<br />

ISSSTA 2008, ASMS 2004-2012 Conferences, and of the MIC Conference 2013. He has taught<br />

several graduate and undergraduate courses on Digital Transmission, Mobile Radio<br />

Communications, Principles of Multimedia Applications and Services, Software for<br />

Telecommunications, Information Theory and Coding, Digital Receiver Design and Optimization,<br />

Creativity and Innovation. He is a Member of the Scientific Committee of the Bologna Business<br />
