The Target “Energy System 2050” is Composed of Five Critical Keystones:
Sources of Energy for the Target System 2050
The energy future of Luxembourg will mainly be based on renewable energy sources
and the mix should be free of nuclear and coal. In particular, solar, wind, biomass,
and geothermal energy will play an important role. A small share of fossil fuel energy
sources (like crude oil and natural gas) could still be part of the energy system in
2050 for back-up and transition reasons – and because the country will most likely
still need to import a certain percentage of its energy.
