Energy efficiency-productivity improvements are site-specific, with wide variation in the energy
consumed per type of delivered energy service. For example, the following chart shows the
variation in direct energy consumption of dairy milk production. A professional audit can
determine if additional efficiency gains can be achieved cost-effectively. Implementation of
wireless smart sensor networks providing real-time data to develop intelligent algorithms and
smart analytic applications will enable designing for and maintaining optimal energy
performance of each energy-consuming piece of machinery or device.
