Speaker_________________________________________________________________
Topic___________________________________________________________________
INSTRUCTIONS:
Fill in your name on page 2, after “Peer Evaluator Name and #”
You must submit TWO documents (this document that has your notes, plus your typed pages
responding to the questions below) to your instructor at the beginning of class, no later than one week
from the day you hear your assigned speech.
Follow the document preparation guidelines in the syllabus for your typed evaluation.
Peer evaluations are to be approximately three typed pages, not including the pages of this document.
Please answer the following questions. Reflect on each question carefully, thoughtfully and thoroughly.
_________________________________________________________________________________
1. What did the speaker do well? List at least three things.
2. According to the speaker, what benefits will you get from the speech? How realistic do you think these
benefits are?
3. What was the issue? Did the speaker clearly establish it? How?
For questions 4 and 5, please consider the following concepts. You do not need to use the same concepts for
both questions.

Audience Adaptation
Sources
Organization

Delivery
Visual Aids
Ethics

Connectives
Credibility
Attention Getter
4. What did the speaker do that was particularly effective in terms of any two concepts from the above
list? Please be specific and use examples from the speech to demonstrate your points. Address each
concept separately and number them 4a and 4b.
5. Considering any two of the concepts listed above, what do you think the speaker could work on for
future speeches? Please be specific and use examples from the speech to demonstrate your points.
Provide specific suggestions for improvement. Address each concept separately and number them 5a
and 5b.
6. How many different sources did you hear the speaker cite within the speech? Do not count multiple
references to the same source; for example, three references to "Camille Johnson" would count as
one. How credible were these sources? Why? What suggestions can you make for the speaker in
terms of sources?
7. Critique the speaker’s delivery, especially: eye contact, use of verbal fillers, vocal energy,
conversational delivery and use of slides.
must actively listen to the speech to do this, so don’t even try to write in complete sentences. Focus your
