Who thinks today’s teenagers are worse than
their parents’ generation? A survey for a
British magazine has some good news for
mums and dads: their children actually
want to help in the house and like doing
housework! The magazine spoke to 350
teenagers aged between 13 and 16. More than
200 said they ’often’ helped in the house. 85%
said they always made their own bed. The
most popular activities included washing the
car, helping in the garden, and doing the
washing-up. Last on the list was doing the
ironing (3%). Nearly a quarter said they
sometimes helped do the cooking. Most
identified cleaning their rooms as very
important because ’parents get angry when
rooms are untidy’.
The survey found a difference between
teenagers in the north and south of the
country. Teenagers in the north said they
usually help their parents more than four
times a week. In the south, it was only two or
three times a week.
