What are young teens wearing today?
Comfortable clothes are important, but
so are bright colours like orange and
red, especially for girls. Boys prefer
darker colours, or light greens and
browns. Shorts, jeans and T-shirts are
popular, but a new fashion for boys is
to wear two shirts at the same time.
Boys also like wearing big clothes, two or
three sizes larger than they need. 16-
year-old Brian Barnhart says, ’People
look at me because my clothes are so
big.’
Today’s fashions include many ideas and
styles which were popular in the 1970s
and 1980s. Shop assistant Clare Carter
says that parents of teenagers often
come into the shop with their children
and say, ’I made a mistake. I didn’t
keep my old clothes from the 1970s. My
children want them now.’ Teen fashions
are becoming more expensive every day
– Clare says she understands the
parents.
