In June 1970 Dave Kunst started a
journey round the world. But he didn’t
go by car, or boat, or train. Dave
walked. The only form of transport he
used was a plane, to fly across the sea
from America to Europe, from India to
Australia, and finally from Australia back
to the USA. The rest of the journey,
across 13 countries, was on foot – for a
total of 23,120 kilometres, and 22 pairs
of shoes. The journey was difficult and
sometimes dangerous. But there were some
good moments, too. In Australia he met a
schoolteacher called Jenni. She decided to
help Dave. Dave walked, and Jenni drove
in her car with all Dave’s things. When
Dave arrived back in the USA in 1974 he
and Jenni got married.
