Dera Ismail Khan, one of the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Province of<br />

Pakistan consists of four Tehsils i.e. Paharpur, Paroa, Kulachi and Dera Ismail Khan. There are<br />

numbers of Elementary Schools where hundreds of teachers are imparting education on the<br />

students. Prescribed minimum qualification for appointment of a teacher in the primary section<br />

of the elementary level of education was earlier Secondary School Certificate (SSC) which has<br />

now been enhanced to FA/FSc, with Primary Teaching Certificate (PTC), whereas numerous<br />

teachers in many of the primary sections of elementary education Institutions have much higher<br />

qualification i.e. a Degree of MA/MSc with BEd or Even MEd.<br />

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM<br />

Implications of the Elementary Education for being cornerstone of Education in the life of a<br />

child are quite obvious and in this respect role of the teacher can not be underestimated as the<br />

teachers at that very level of Education is supposed to deal with more than one subjects as there a<br />

single class teacher for a section of grade five who deals with all the subject taught to the<br />

students. This study was initiated to investigate the effects and association of Elementary<br />

teachers’ qualification on the achievements and academic success of the Elementary level<br />

students.<br />

Objective of the Study<br />

Cardinal object of the study was to determine the association and ultimate effects of elementary<br />

teachers’ qualification on achievements of students of grade five at elementary level of<br />

education.<br />

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY<br />

No one can deny the importance of elementary education in life of a child which is the inception<br />

of the process of education that helps nourish the potentials of a child and guides him through to<br />

the track of success. At elementary level the teachers are supposed to deal with multiple subjects<br />

and take their pupils through successfully to the next phase of education i.e. junior secondary or<br />

middle school level of education. Elementary education being the foundation for future journey<br />

of education requires lot of attention, care and appropriate instructional guidance to attract the<br />

students towards purposeful education. Teachers’ academic qualification, knowledge base,<br />

apprehension and understanding of the ways and means of effective teaching play quite<br />

important role in this respect.<br />

HYPOTHESES<br />

Following were the hypotheses of the study:<br />

H o: There is no significant effect of teachers’ qualification on the achievement of elementary<br />

level students<br />

H o: There is no association among teachers’ qualification and the academic success of<br />

elementary level students<br />

H 1: There is a significant effect of teachers’ qualification on the achievement of elementary level<br />

students<br />

H 1: There is significant association among teachers’ qualification and the academic success of<br />

elementary level students<br />

LIMITATIONS<br />

The study mere considered the qualification of the respective teachers whereas their<br />

experience and methods of teaching were not taken into account while determining the<br />

achievements and educational successes of the elementary level students. Further, only male<br />

teachers were considered whereas female teachers were not included in the study.<br />
