responsibility given. As they refused to work on this extra assignment, it created a situation of<br />

conflict between them and the senior management.<br />

Some nominated team members did not even have appropriate writing skills which they did not<br />

want to disclose as this might go against their interests and turn out to be a source of conflict<br />

between them and the management, which delayed the process of SAR. Using their influence of<br />

age and personality some senior people allocated this work to their juniors who were unable to<br />

even understand the SAM.<br />

Personal interest also played a vital role in this project as some team members wanted to prove<br />

their worth in their department by taking up this project. They collected all the data required for<br />

this SAR which included the filling up of forms from the students and teachers which was not<br />

sufficient. Some team member had to face work- family conflict as they wanted to tackle both<br />

family and work together and unable to resolve both, which caused delay in the completion of<br />

this report and decisions made by managers in response to these workplace events had important<br />

consequences. Personal differences amongst the members of one department also created role<br />

conflict which had both negative and positive effect on the completion of this report.<br />

Conclusion and Discussion<br />

Organization politics does have an effect on the ways in which an individual responds to various<br />

situations. With an awareness of the potential approaches employees can deal with the issues like<br />

power, influence and conflict which can provide employees with tools that can help shape their<br />

own work climate. After assessing the role of organizational politics in the implementation of<br />

SAM, it was suggested that the organization for future work might like to consider the following<br />

suggestions for the improvement and implementation of SAM in other campuses and in the<br />

second round of assessment in Islamabad campus.<br />

The role of senior management may be defined in the implementation of SAM so that there is no<br />

conflict of power and interest; as power is not the act of changing others but it is the potential to<br />

take people along.<br />

Teams members who are working on this project may be given some incentive and recognition<br />

so that they should work whole heartedly and not to just complete the work by cutting and<br />

pasting. Their time in this work may be counted as research work and some teaching load may be<br />

taken off from them. Their only interest was their career not of the organization<br />

Coalition and coordination should be used instead of coercive power and in case of family work<br />

conflict some standby arrangement should be provided to the team member.<br />

As this is the process of institutionalization so there should be some policy designed to integrate<br />

self assessment process in organizational mission, so that each department should start this work<br />

as a regular process and from day one allocate this task to those people who are capable of<br />

handling this work and have appropriate writing skills.<br />
