Craftsman Farms:
Craftsman Farms was founded in 1908 in Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County, New Jersey, by noted
early 20th century designer Gustav Stickley as a farm and school for the Arts and Crafts movement. It
remained in use until 1915 when it was sold to a family and became a private house.
When threatened by development in 1989, the home was purchased by the Township of Parsippany-
Troy Hills through eminent domain. The property is operated as a museum, also known as the Stickley
Museum at Craftsman Farms, and is operated by the Craftsman Farms Foundation.
The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms is open for tours year round Thursday through Sunday. The
grounds, a town park, are open from dawn till dusk.
TENAFLY SHUKOKAI KARATE
& WELLNESS CENTER
Located in the heart of Tenafly in the
lower level of the CVS building, you
will find a Total Wellness Center. It is a
hidden jewel that will inspire you and
take you to that place of inner knowing
and abilities.
Through Karate one learns to grow
and expand beyond their everyday
limits. Karate is an art form that has
you challenge yourself through your
body. Shukokai Karate is a Martial Art
that creates great physical strength as
well as inner strength.
Sensei Shigeru Kimura developed this
style, which encompasses a whole
body approach. It is through the inner
workings of the body, mind, and
spirit that you will find great satisfaction
while learning how to defend yourself
and also how to overcome obstacles.
This teaching is more than just working
with the body. The lessons taught also
translate to your daily activities.
The discipline that comes with temperance,
humility, patience, creativity
and effort. (these are our dojo creed),
come together to give you much
more than a mere workout. It is a way
of life. Something that you can always
work to improve on. Always striving
for more growth. Sort of like playing a
chess game with yourself, having you
come out the winner.
Along with Karate we also offer meditation
classes for women and children.
Energy Healing sessions, and workshops
that assist in empowering you to
be more whole, to be more centered,
to relieve stress from the hustle and
bustle of everyday life. Each of these
activities works towards releasing repeating
patterns and limiting beliefs
that do not serve your higher good.
The energy work Sensei Linda does releases
lower energies that prevent you
from living your desired life. In place
comes a newness that empowers you
and allows you to move towards your
desires with an easy flow. You can find
out more by visiting her website lindaarmstrong.com
Tenafly
Tenafly is a borough in Bergen
County, New Jersey. As of the
2010 census, the borough’s population
was 14,488, reflecting an
increase of 682 (+4.9%) from the
13,806 counted in the 2000 Census,
which had in turn increased
by 480 (+3.6%) from the 13,326
counted in the 1990 Census.
Tenafly is a suburb of New York City.
The first European settlers in Tenafly
were Dutch immigrants, who began
to populate the area during
the late 17th century. The name
“Tenafly” itself is derived from the
early-modern Dutch phrase “Tiene
Vly” or “Ten Swamps” which was
given by Dutch settlers in 1688.
Other derivations cite a Dutch language
connection to its location
on a meadow.
Tenafly was incorporated as a borough
on January 24, 1894, by an
Act of the New Jersey Legislature
from portions of the now-defunct
Palisades Township, based on the
results of a referendum held the
previous day. The borough was the
first formed during the “Boroughitis”
phenomenon then sweeping
through Bergen County, in which
26 boroughs were formed in the
county in 1894 alone.
New Jersey Monthly magazine
ranked Tenafly as the 7th best
place to live in New Jersey in its
2013 rankings of the “Best Places
To Live” in New Jersey.
Donald.
What is Neuromuscular Therapy?
Neuromuscular therapy is a very specific and scientific
massage technique.
Spasms, or trigger points, setup at neuro receptor sites in
muscle tissue through out the body. Every muscle has a
predetermined pattern of where and number of spasms
that will set up in that particular muscle.
Each spasm also has a specific pain pattern that it
causes. The pain can be local to where the spasm is
located or it can refer to an entirely different part of the
body.
For an example, the psoas is a muscle in the front of
the body in the abdomen area that refers pain to the
lower back. The spasms and pain patterns are the exact
same in every human being.
Blood flow is essential to muscle tissue for three specific
reasons: it removes toxins; it provides nutrition; and it
provides oxygen.
When the primary spasms set up in muscle tissue, it
slows down the rate of blood flow to that muscle which
then causes ischemia (lack of blood flow). The ischemia
then causes the muscle to become hyper tonic
and allows the secondary spasms to set up.
Usually there is a primary spasm and then satellite or
secondary spasms that then set up later. As the inital
muscle becomes more contracted, toxic, tender and
begins to refer pain, we then start to compensate for
that pain then secondary muscles become involved.
It basically is a domino effect that just continues to get
worse until we have limited range of motion from the
pain.
Spasms set up in muscle tissue for a variety of reasons
- over use (repetitive stress movement); under use (staying
in the same position); misuse (a secondary muscle
firing when it should be a primary mover); and trauma
(an accident of some sort, or a viral or bacterial infection).
How Do You Get Out of Pain?
The only way is to have the spasms treated. Once the
spasm is treated and removed hyperemia (increased
blood flow) returns to the muscle, and the process reverses
itself.
What happens when the spasms are removed?
Increased blood circulation to the muscles, allowing
for faster muscle repair, increased flexibility, increased
range of motion, decreased stress and dpression, reduced
pain, reduced stiffness, improved sleep patterns.
Direct Pain Relief usually charges $100 per one hour session;
The 6,584 yard par 72 Overpeck golf course features ample fairways
and large greens. Wind is always a factor but the real challenge exists
in skillfully avoiding the abundance of water. Situated on the northern
tip of the New Jersey Meadowlands, holes cross over, run adjacent to
and are surrounded by hazards.
The Overpeck Creek bisects holes #5, 6, 7 and 9 requiring carries on
the drive at #6, and the second shot on the others. Every hole on the
front has water in play.
The back nine starts dry as #10 and 11 but the walk to the 12th tee
reveals a large lake that comes into play on most of the closing seven
holes. Returning to the clubhouse with the same ball from the first tee is
a true accomplishment.
Cresskill is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough’s population was 8,573, reflecting
an increase of 827 (+10.7%) from the 7,746 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 188 (+2.5%) from the 7,558 counted
in the 1990 Census. This town got its name from “Cress”, referring to the watercress which grew in its streams, and “Kill”, referring to the stream
passing through.
Cresskill was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on May 8, 1894, from portions of Palisades Township. The borough
was formed during the “Boroughitis” phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County, in which 26 boroughs were formed in the county
in 1894 alone. A portion of the borough was annexed by Alpine in 1904.
Railroads provided access from Cresskill to customers in New York City, including a chicken hatchery that was the world’s largest by 1897. Railroad
access helped make Cresskill the home of Camp Merritt, the major debarkation point for more than a million American troops being sent
abroad to fight in World War I. A large obelisk memorial (referred to by locals as “The Monument”, or “The Circle Monument” was dedicated in
1924, set in the middle of the Camp Merritt Memorial Circle at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Knickerbocker Road (CR 505), to commemorate
the fact.
