Program Explorer Chachapoyas
Duration: 5 days / 4 nights
Arrive to the city of Chachapoyas (From
Cajamarca or Chiclayo)
DAY 1 Transfer In to your hotel. Free time
to explore the city. Lodge / Hotel.
Chachapoyas - Karajia sarcophagus
DAY 2 Breakfast. we drive down to the
Utcubamba and cross over to the
neighboring Province of Luya. From the
village of Lamud we drive on to the village
of Cruz Pata, where a short walk (45min)
takes us down to Karajia. These striking
sarcophagi, sculptured like humans have
become an icon of the area. For 750 years
they have looked towards the rising sun
and undoubtedly are the resting place for
some elite members of Chachapoya
warriors.

DAY 3 Breakfast. Full day excursion to the
fortress of Kuelap, which is the largest
stone structure in South America,
estimably containing three times more
building material than the Great Pyramid of
Egypt. Kuelap is far larger, more mysterious,
and higher then Machu Picchu, and
probably more significant in the far older
era it served. After this visit drive to
Leymebamba town.

DAY 4 Breakfast. We drive to Yerbabuena
area and we start to walk for a steady 2
hours uphill for a close up view of a
spectacularly colorful cliff tomb ( on
request we can provided horses). This
extremely photogenic site is perched on a
yellow cliff and the tombs are like mini
houses with red pictographs dating back to
We drive back to Leymebamba and Visit the new
museum of Leymebamba “Mallqui” that is housing
219 mummies found at a nearby lake in 1997.

DAY 5 Breakfast. Transfer to the Bus station to
take the Bus to your next destination.
