Forest Preserve District of Will County
Residents and visitors of Will County enjoy the benefits of 22,000
acres of forest preserves and 127 miles of asphalt, crushed
limestone and natural surface trails. Hikers, runners, bicyclists and
equestrians all have trail options that will suit their activities. The
Forest Preserve offers a large variety of public programs throughout
the year that provide low- or no-cost outings and quality family time.
Thousands attend these programs, which get people of all ages into
beautiful outdoor surroundings. These programs span the gamut
from educational to recreational to healthful, and enrich body, mind
and spirit. Other popular activities include fishing, boating and bird
watching. The District’s dog parks are a popular place for off-leash
Parks and
recreation
play. In New Lenox, the Old Plank Road Trail runs directly through
the Village. The 21-mile, multi-use trail runs from Joliet to Park
Forest and was a former railroad route. Additionally, there are three
forest preserves within New Lenox: Hickory Creek Barrens Nature
Preserve (home to historic Schmuhl School), Potawatomi Woods
Preserve and Hadley Valley Preserve. Hadley Valley Preserve is also
the location of the Spring Creek Greenway Trail. Please visit the
District’s website at ReconnectWithNature.org for full details or call
