dark age of Kali yuga, Ayurveda is timeless and like all other aspects of Vedic<br />

Literature was passed from consciousness <strong>to</strong> consciousness for countless<br />

millennia until it was codified by Veda Vyasa at the start of Kali yuga. The<br />

Ayurveda we have <strong>to</strong>day is specifically for Kali yuga and omits some aspects<br />

that are present in Satya yuga.<br />

Ayurveda is more than a mere system of treating illness; Ayurveda is a<br />

science of life (Ayur = life, and Veda = science or knowledge). It offers a body<br />

of wisdom <strong>to</strong> help people stay vital while realizing their full human potential.<br />

Providing guidelines on ideal daily and seasonal routines, diet, behavior and<br />

the proper use of our senses, Ayurveda reminds us that health is the balanced<br />

and dynamic integration between our environment, body, mind, and spirit.<br />

In that body of knowledge of Ayurveda is the technique of kaya kalpa.<br />

Kaya kalpa is a treatment for health, vitality, longevity and higher<br />

consciousness. The name is from the Sanskrit kaya (body) and kalpa<br />

(rejuvenation). Research was conducted <strong>to</strong> see what this science of kaya kalpa<br />

might have <strong>to</strong> offer. The result is, it certainly is a valid approach <strong>to</strong> longer life,<br />

but has a significant drawback: Kaya kalpa is a rejuvenation process so the<br />

result is a rejuvenated Kali yuga physiology that must be again rejuvenated in<br />

a few years. No fundamental change on the level of DNA takes place and infact<br />

the DNA mutates over the lifespan and these mutations are a<br />

contributing fac<strong>to</strong>r in the aging process.<br />

The idea that the accumulation of DNA mutations may be an<br />

important mechanism of aging is not new. It was convincingly demonstrated<br />

in many studies that the maximal life span correlates with the efficiency of<br />
