topical london I was shocked… and I wrote the f***ing thing” “I was shocked… and I wrote the f***ing thing,” said Irvine Welsh after seeing the theatrical adaptation of his infamous novel Trainspotting which is being staged at The Vaults, in Waterloo, over the winter. It’s billed as an “immersive production – the audience are literally part of the show”, so expect little distinction between the seating area and the stage. And yes, you’ve guessed it: there’s lots of violence, nudity, swearing and “heavy drug and needle use”. It sounds like even Begbie would be impressed. Trainspotting, The Vaults, SE1 7AD, Nov 3 to Jan 15, from £20. ‘Braconid’. That’s the word that propelled Londoner Brett Smitherham to victory at the Scrabble World Championships this autumn. Gangnam style? Not quite. London’s festival of Korean music certainly features an eclectic mix of styles (classical, jazz, folk, rock, alternative and dance) but unfortunately they haven’t managed to persuade the inimitable Psy (of Gangnam fame) to perform. Instead you’ll have to satisfy yourself with the likes of Youn Sun Nah (pictured), Jambinai, Asian Chairshot, and Danpyunsun and the Sailors. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.
