CHASING THE RAINBOW 2
PROLOGUE
She was there in him as the breath that he inhaled and exhaled…
She was present in every thought of his…
She was the darkness in his shadow…
She was in his every mood and…
She was there with him as a dream…
She was his! But where was she?
Why was she not with him!
His love! His life! His destiny! Why did she never think for him…
“There you go Prince!” Major Chawla motioned to a lush expanse of land that seemed to
stretch forever. It was amidst the picturesque setting of the Himalayas with the valley
stretching before them…
“Is this Sunauli?” He asked the Army official who was sitting next to him…
“Yes sir! This is Sunauli and we are supposed to go to the Post office where…”
The Major was still speaking when he stalled him and said, “No! Please! I can manage
from here.”
He did not want to bother Major Chawla more than he had already!
His dad had called the Major’s dad his best pal to arrange for the trip, and Major Aman
Chawla had done more than enough for him to reach his destination. “Are you sure?”
The Army official raised his eyebrows at the man.
“100% Sure!” came the reply. “Ok then I shall arrange for the vehicle to reach you in two
hours!“
Major Aman said. “Thanks Major!” he shook hands with him, and walked on… towards his
destiny.
CHASING THE RAINBOW 4
Chapter 16
The next day went without any eventuality, but the evening brought with
it news of the management hosting a party as the Mukund Dhanjani
mess was sorted although not completely, but it was again on track and a
major turnaround for the Corporal. Khushi who was not interested had
no choice as it was an official party, and also Raina somehow talked her
into coming just to be with her.
It was sheer torture. Khushi closed her eyes. The party was on and the
crowd had turned boisterous. The Bollywood theme was a roaring success
and everyone was enjoying while she could feel the Prince’s eyes on her
all the time. It was his smoldering gaze, that made her feel the heat so
much so that she felt very hot and stuffy She only heard that sexual
tension made people flush, but this was ridiculous. All through she found
his eyes following her and there was a blatant desire written all over
them, which she tried her best to ignore and failed too. It was so bad that
she now was jumpy and very subdued at the same time. But as Eisha
Bhujpal walked in just a few minutes before, she realized the entire
scenario changed as she hogged the Prince and staked her claim and
refused to budge. All the women- young and old who were flocking round
the Prince for either a dance or to click a selfie, were now wary of even
approaching him as she dragged him on to the dance floor. She felt
relieved in a way as his eyes otherwise literally haunted her as if they were
popping a question to her- will you be mine? All the time! Khushi took a
deep breath as Manisha came for her and dragged her back to the party.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 5
Deepthimaan tried to control his rising temper as Eisha dragged him on to
the dance floor. He had to give it to the woman for being dense. Now he
didn’t want to make a scene before his staff. But it was time for her to
know not to mess up with him he mentally took an oath, as she moved
further into him matching his steps. But what irritated him was the idiot
woman who was stealing glances and ran away from her own heart. He
shook his head in exasperation at the mere thought of her.
“What happened Deep?” Eisha’s sugary voice irritated him further as he
flipped her over for a thunderous applause from the audience, which
satisfied her, as she clung to him. And as an afterthought she rose on her
toes and kissed him.
Deepthimaan was stunned by what Eisha did and as he freed himself
without appearing to be insulting towards the lady, he noticed from the
corner of his eye something that made him just walk off the dance floor
and into the corridor right next to the arena and to the side entrance that
led to a cove that connected to the huge gardens outside.
He saw her! She stood with her eyes wide and hurt as Eisha kissed him,
and it was the look of an unfathomable expression in the eyes that alerted
him and before he could even free himself she turned and bolted off. He
didn’t like it at all. Somehow. It was crazy. Who was she! Hell they weren’t
even in a relationship for her to feel bad and for him to acknowledge her
feelings but… they were into something, which he was determined to find
out right then.
She started helping with the eats…
“Khushi what is the matter?” he asked her.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 6
“Nothing sir” she said with a voice so thick that he knew she had been
crying and still was.
“Then why were you crying?” He asked her.
“Uhhhh! Nothing like that’s sir” she turned trying to smile.
His blood boiled but he chose to play along.
“Then why are you here? When everybody is enjoying there! Why don’t
you go dance?” He demanded.
“I…don’t feel like it sir.” She said casually.
He lost his cool and caught her by her elbow steered her off the crowd,
and made her stand by a pillar and asked her, “What is it?”
She just feigned surprise and asked, “What sir? What are you doing here?
You were er…dancing isn’t it?”
He smiled ruefully at her difficulty in saying dancing. Coz actually Eisha
was all over him on the dance floor just about doing everything else other
than dancing…
“Yeah I am enjoying the party Ms. But what about you? You don’t need to
help with all these as The Corporal has hired caterers for that. This entire
event is being organized by an event management group and…” he took
the tray from her hands and gave it to a steward saying, “I want my staff
to chill. Why don’t you relax? More so why don’t you relax…or dance or
mix with people?”
“Uhh! I told you I don’t feel like and…uhh…” She stalled a direct reply. “Bull
shit!” He said. “Why don’t you be normal for once and enjoy yourself?”
Khushi knew he was trying to tell her to let go off the past and move
forward.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 7
Somehow it stung her. Actually when she saw Eisha kissing him,
something inside her shriveled and died. She could not explain what. But
it was as if, she became empty from inside. What did she expect! Her
inner voice came with a bang! He took pity on her. She didn’t even belong
to his league and women like Eisha would never let him be, leave alone
allowing him to even look at women like her. He just was being nice to
her. Why did she let her mind run away like that with thoughts of him
taking interest in her? Oh God! She was an absolute fool! It dawned on to
her.
“I asked you something Khushi” he was saying when Anmol Balsawer
came and wished Deepthimaan, and then took her hand and dragged her
saying, “C’mon let’s dance to celebrate our success…” and Khushi found
herself being dragged away and when she turned and looked at the
Prince she saw him fuming and did not quite get him. He wanted her to
enjoy but was looking at her as if she pinched off his family silver.
Khushi started dancing and it’s been ages since she did that she thought,
as rhythm came to her naturally being a trained dancer and Anmol was
good too. He clapped in surprise and cheered saying let’s do a couple one
and lifted her up before she could ward him off and as she was lifted up,
her eyes met Deepthimaan’s and she gulped hard at the expression in
them. Now what had happened she thought as Anmol lowered her and
flipped her and everybody was cheering and she followed through as the
music stopped suddenly and the hostess’s voice came sharp and clear
through the mike saying Ladies and gentlemen let’s move on to cut the
cake commemorating the success of the Corporal and as everyone
CHASING THE RAINBOW 8
moved, she found her wrist being captured by a strong hand and was
pulled back as Deepthimaan’s voice came cutting into her ear, “Enjoyed
the dance?”
She felt so miserable that she spat back “You bet I did sir! Anmol dances
too good.” “You were not sparing any of yourself either” came the jibe.
She looked at him and asked him, “What’s your problem sir? You asked
me to enjoy the party. That’s precisely what I did.”
“Did you now? I wonder then why do you put on an act of innocent
wronged woman all the time. To grab attention?” His question sliced
through her heart like a knife.
That’s what he thought of her? How sad!
She looked at him dumb founded.
“Anmol is still a novice. Spare him I need him to work through the rest of
the case” Deepthimaan said his voice cold and cutting.
“Excuse me sir. I don’t have any idea of what you are talking about.”
“Don’t you?” He caught her upper arm and shook her when someone
called out, “Prince Raja saa is calling you for the cake cutting ceremony.
Deepthimaan shirked her hand off and walked away as Khushi flopped on
the settee nearby in absolute misery.
Chasing The Rainbow
He found her standing in the garden gazing at the full moon. The music
was blaring away in the dancing arena, and was audible there too and as
CHASING THE RAINBOW 9
he approached her, she didn’t turn but he saw that she was wiping her
tears off.
Why was she crying man!
He walked to her and she just stood staring at the moon.
“What’s wrong with you Khushi? He asked her.
She didn’t answer.
“Ok. I said something, Fine! Just forget it.”
She snorted and he looked up rolling his eyes and said, “See? I never
saw…you dancing… I only meant…” she made to move, and he caught her
right hand by her wrist and asked, “Care to dance with me?”
She looked at him sharply and said, “No!” And tried to walk past him.
“Oh no! You won’t go! If Anmol gets that for assisting me, then I should get
much more don’t you think so?” Deepthimaan heard himself asking.
Since when was he asking women! They drooled over him! He thought.
“What did Anmol get?” Khushi was spoiling for a fight.
“Dance.” He said calmly.
Khushi’s jaw dropped. “You…er…want to dance with me?”
“Yeah. Can’t I?” He demanded.
“No! I can’t sir.” She said.
“You dance well and I don’t have two left feet at least” he said.
Was he kidding? He danced superbly. She saw him dance. At least until
Eisha came and converted it to a mating exercise, she grimaced inwardly.
“Why not?” His hold tightened on her wrist.
“Sir I don’t want unnecessary controversy.” There she said it.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 10
“What are you saying! Everybody danced with me including Mrs. Paul our
receptionist.” He hinted at a sixty-five-year-old lady.
“But...er…no sir.” Khushi tried to move.
“No! I insist.” He said pulling her to him.
“Sir what…is… this!” She closed her eyes as he drew her nearer, and it
affected her.
He said, “I have a bad habit Khushi. If I want something, I won’t rest till I
get it. Khushi shivered at the insinuation, as his eyes skimmed her face he
said, “If I get what I want…Then I never let go” and flipped her to the
rhythm of the music and started dancing as Khushi matched the steps
with him naturally, amazed as how easily they fit and he pulled her into a
very large Gazebo as they danced.
The first thing she noticed about him was his physique. It was not a put on
at all. He looked good but as she danced with him, she realised that he
was very agile. His body was absolutely in form and he danced with an
excellent sense of rhythm. As he flipped her over, she realised that he had
well-toned muscles and his torso was fine toned and indicated rigorous
workouts. There was no flab on the man at all! Her hands when they left
his and spread across his chest, she found his chest to be warm and very
hard indicating perfect health. He was any woman’s dream come true she
thought! Khushi felt ensconced by his warmth. He was a superb dancer
and as he maneuvered her along him, she felt as if she was a part of his
body. As the music took to a tempo he drew her closer, and Khushi
realised that he was reluctant to space her away from him and continued
to manage her just along his body so much so that she felt as if she was
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 11
just next to him all the time. He flipped her and caught her with ease, and
his hands on her body made her feel strangely bound and strangely free
at the same time. Her spirit soured high and was set free making her
smile and as the peppy number came to an end, there was a soft
romantic waltz played and he stopped dancing and pulled her to him and
asked, “Why were you upset when I was dancing?”
“Ji?” Khushi was living a fantasy till the question crashed it to pieces.
“No sir. I didn’t, and who am I to feel anything” she said and could detect
hurt in her own voice.
He bent forward and said very softly, “Who are you? That’s what I too don’t
understand…”
She stared at him mutely as the light from the garden played along the
shadows on them. He bent further and asked, “You didn’t like Eisha
kissing me… why?” Khushi felt the floor slipping away from underneath
her feet.
He had noticed! Strangely she felt elated that he noticed her hurt. But she
also felt very embarrassed as he got her right.
“Nothing like that sir. Why would I?” She sighed.
His hands that were holding her loose by her waist tightened as he
whispered, “Were you upset or not?”
“No …er…Sir” She said trying to bring some stern quality to her voice.
“Say it Khushi” he insisted.
“Say what sir? There is nothing to say.” She said and for the life of her she
didn’t know why she added, “Is there?”
“There isn’t?” He was as if he was asking himself.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 12
She just shook her head, as she didn’t trust her voice.
“Uhun?” He asked her.
“Uhhh! Huh!” She confirmed.
“Then let me create something!” He said and before she could
comprehend,” bent a little and touched his lips to hers tentatively, and
looked at her. She knew he was waiting for her consent.
She was floored by his impeccable manners. She could bet that he could
simply claim a kiss, as she was more than willing. But he was asking her,
and she did not know what to do! She so wanted it but she could not give
up… how could she! She smarted and he growled, “Let go Sweetheart!”
She shook her head indicating a no and, he sighed and moved a little
apart but Khushi realised that in reflex, she pulled him towards her as she
was mentally with him and did not realise she was holding on to his
shoulders still. She saw him misunderstanding that as her consent, and
went still, not knowing how to clear the air.
He groaned and his lips descended on hers with their full force.
Khushi never would have believed it if anyone told her that a kiss could
hold a soul to ransom until then. Coz that’s what Prince Deepthimaan
Rathore did. His lips warm and sure imprinted their shape on her bow
shaped soft lips, and after giving her a second to adjust to them, applied
pressure parting them and probing deeper, making her hand hold on to
his shoulders for her dear life. He tasted her mouth by softly sluicing his
tongue into her mouth and she just stood savouring his sweet assault
when he suddenly groaned and bent his head in an angle gaining access
to the recess of his mouth as if he could not have enough off her taste.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 13
Khushi had no option but to accommodate his stance by bending her
head to the opposite angle, and as she did that, he stepped closer and his
arm went round her waist making her to hold his right shoulder by
winding her arm from under it and she moaned as this made his body
come etch itself on to her left side making her feel every rippling muscle
of his. He then readjusted his hand through the thin dupatta she was
wearing and at the first contact of his palm on the skin on her waist,
Khushi whimpered and he lifted her a little to gain access to her mouth
deeper and thorough making her toes curl in mid-air literally.
Deepthimaan knew the woman was any man’s fantasy come true. But that
she would be a perfect fit to him? Nah! He didn’t guess even. He was a sixfooter
and the lady was a petite piece of pure indulgence. But when he
gave in to his errant thoughts and kissed her, he realized he crossed his
line of control. That was a first!
When he probed deeper, he couldn’t help but go on and on, as she not
only tasted sweet, but her mouth was yummy. Hot, sweet and absolute
haven for all his cravings! He readjusted her body by bending his head for
a better access and she reciprocated making it worse for him. Now he was
unstoppable and he delved deeper, and when he thought she was sagging
against him, he wound his arm round her waist. Another mistake. Her skin
was so delectable and the waist so dainty that he lost it completely and
lifted her up for even better access and when she whimpered, oh God! He
just had to do everything in his control to stop from taking her then and
there.
He left her lips and stared at her gasping holding her still in mid-air.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 14
Khushi breathed erratically as finally air supply was restored but why was
she feeling as if he sucked off everything right from her gut? She
wondered and found the answer immediately as she looked into a pair of
beautiful eyes slanting to the outside and it was their colour, that made
her gasp. They were a deep blue and he was staring at her as if she was
an alien.
She smarted to gain control and then ran her tongue over her lips to wet
them as they were dried up by his ministrations. The moment she did that
she realized it was a mistake as his eyes followed the moment and then
he raised them to look into her eyes and what she saw then in them made
her go warm all over and she realized she was slowly starting to sweat.
His eyes were deep and intense and the intensity she saw in them shook
her as he let out a growl and kissed her again. This time he gave her an
open mouthed kiss. There was no restraint in it. He just let her lips be
marauded by his, and when she moaned in protest, sunk his teeth into
her lower lip making her lace her fingers through his short cropped hair
letting out a tiny scream, which seemed to excite him, further. One of his
hands that held her by her waist, inched up and held her just below her
breasts and Khushi felt herself arch back to allow for the ache that was
building in them to be eased, which he welcomed by splaying his hand
such that his thumb rested on her breast while still holding her by her
waist below.
Khushi never knew that anything could be so erotic as that. She was no
match to him at all. The realization brought in its wake despair.
NO! What was she doing! This was dangerous.
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 15
She jerked back suddenly but the Prince held her, and eased her slowly
and opened his eyes looking inquisitively at her. She looked away saying,
“…pl…eeease…put me down sir.”
His eyes shone brightly but only for a second, and he slowly lowered her
taking his time.
As her body rubbed against his, Khushi tried her best not to moan as her
body was hyper-sensitized to his touch and as he lowered her body down
his, in an agonizingly slow manner, she realized how much in tune it was
with his. She could actually feel the thrum of her blood in her body as she
slid down his body making contact with his hard rippling muscles and she
panicked a she was absolutely aroused.
Deepthimaan never felt so overwhelmed as he was then. It was a shocker.
The woman was absolutely made to order for him. The way her body
responded to him! He was sure, even she was shocked at her own
response to him. They shared a perfect chemistry. When he held her and
kissed her a few moments back, he could feel that rush in his head, which
he never experienced with any woman. With others, he was always in
control. So much so that he was getting out of relationships fast off late,
coz it really didn’t have any thrill in it for him. He wanted to loose himself.
But when the time came he always didn’t like it too. To lose control over
self always meant being at the mercy of the others. And that was
dangerous. He had to gain control. But how! She tried to move away but
he held her by her waistband. Khushi gasped as his fingers wound round
the dainty chain that clung to her waist and pulled it softly. It was such an
Goldenhaze Fiction

CHASING THE RAINBOW 16
erotic gesture, that Khushi blushed till her roots and was only thankful of
the fact that it was semi dark out in the gardens.
He bent his head and looked at her. And in the absence of any other way
to shield herself, Khushi stepped forward and hid her face in the crook of
his neck making him growl, “Khushi! I…this is so damn difficult!”
She held on to him savouring his warmth, the feeling of being loved and
also most importantly, the feeling of being coveted. Whatever happened
later, she would always remember these moments.
May be it would act as an incentive for her to drag on with the rest of her life!
She sighed.
Deepthimaan held her as his heart beat erratically. Her body was supple
and it fit to his frame perfectly. It felt great to be with her that way. It took
no time for him to deduce that it was beyond the physical dimension.
There was much more to it. The vibes they shared were pure magic. It was
as if sensors were fitted to his body as far as she was concerned and to
his soul! And then he heard her sigh and looked down at her. She was
holding on to him as if he was the last hope for a drowning ship. Whatever
it was, someone hurt her! And it must have been really bad. So much, that
she preferred to live in isolation as a recluse than to trust another soul. He
had to find out about that! But for that, he had to crack through that
stubborn exterior and get to her inner core.
“Khushi!” Raina’s voice made her shudder and then before he knew what
was happening, she extricated herself pulled her long scarf off him and
ran out even as he called her to come back.
