10 Most Expensive Vintage Bags
• Jidenna @ Hard Rock Cafe
With Electrifying Concert
Truth be told, there is a difference between living and living ‘the
life’. The only common denominator between the two is breath;
after that, it’s opposite poles.
One is just existing, barely scraping by; the other, a life of luxury
and, sometimes, decadent opulence. For those who make luxe
items and those who purchase such, it’s a life lived on ‘opulence
lane’. Yemisi Suleiman’s compilation of 10 most expensive, luxe
vintage bags, is pure decadence.
Bags that cost as much as luxury homes in choice locations are
not cup cakes for the faint-hearted; you got to have deep, indeed,
very deep pockets to own one. That, my friend, is living ‘the life’!
See pp. 6-7.
On our cover, we have featured 20 music stars living ‘the life’ in
Nigeria. They are stars whom music has brought fame, success
and money. But, more important, they spare no expense to look
good and thus landed on our style radar. Meet the top 20 style stars
on our radar on pp. 8-12.
Finally, we wrap up our fashion pages with classics every stylish
woman must own. Go with us to pp. 4-5.
It’s been an enlightening package. I do hope you were
enlightened.
TIWA SAVAGE
If anyone can sing about being
flawless, it’s Tiwa Savage; the
‘Eminado’ singer doesn’t miss a
step on or off the red carpet.
Her style is utterly feminine
with a forward-thinking sense of
style. Whether she’s rocking a
chic little dress on stage or
matching heels on a red carpet,
her ensembles are always a
captivating mix of sexy, sporty,
and elegant.
Compiled by - Jemi Ekunkunbor
and Yemisi Suleiman
The place of good and tasteful clothes
cannot be over emphasised. Not
only do they help make a good
impression, people are easily drawn to a
well dressed person, like moth to a fire
than a person who does not really care
about how he presents himself or herself.
And the truth is a man never gets a
chance to make a second impression so
the first is very crucial.
Celebrities of the music and movie
industry realise this too well. Their fans
can swear by them and actually crave to
see them slay when they step out on the
red carpet. Designers look to them to
2 D’Prince
Most music stars can either do
formal or casual chic. D’Prince is
one of those that look equally at
ease in a sharp suit or jeans and
t-shirt. He clearly loves clothes
and goes for what suits him,
which is as original as his music.
Although he has been in the middle of several
unpleasant controversies, he remains loved by his fans.
His accessories of long gold chains and
make his greatest fashion statement.
9
TIMAYA
Moringa is like a “vegetable tree,” loaded with health
and beauty supporting vitamins, minerals, and
enzymes, making it a true superfood in every sense of
the word. The Moringa tree originates from India,
where it has been prized for thousands of years, both as
a bountiful source of nutrition, and a robust curative
featured heavily in the ancient Ayurveda Medicine
tradition. The tall, thin moringa tree has been used for
centuries as a cure-all in its native Indian and North
Africa.
It’s a food that makes a strong first impression, given
the significant effects it can have on the human body.
While I was initially impressed by its nutrient profile
(loaded with 90 nutrients including all nine essential
amino acids, making it one of the few plant-based
complete proteins), I was a little taken aback to
discover its irreversible effects on female fertility!
The potency of moringa serves as a great reminder of
how powerful our foods really are, and how important
it is to do your research before jumping on any new
health food bandwagon. No doubt this “miracle tree”
can do great things for your body, but it’s essential to
know all of the other impacts it can have.
10 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT
MORINGA
1. Moringa is a world traveler:
While moringa is native to southern Asia and northern
Africa, you can now find it growing all across the world.
Commercial production of moringa has not only spread
through the rest of Africa and Asia, new farms have
also sprung up in Central America, South America, and
even Hawaii. Because it doesn’t do well in colder
weather, there isn’t currently any large-scale American
production of moringa. You could actually try growing
it yourself if you live in a warm climate, though the
easiest route to get it is to simply purchase it in
powdered form from a health store.
2. Moringa is a traditional cure-all:
Moringa got its nickname, “miracle-tree,” from its
varied characteristics and purposes including its ability
to treat a wide variety of ailments. Science has proven
than it does indeed posses a
number of medicinal qualities,
including being an
antibacterial, antiviral,
antifungal, and antiinflammatory,
which would
explain why it grew to prominence
as a cure-all. Different parts of the tree,
including the leaves, flowers, and seeds, have each
been used to treat different ailments. Traditionally, its
leaves were steeped in water to make tea as a treatment
for diarrhea, fevers, or various infections. The flowers
can also be used to make tea, and have been used to
improve the quality and amount of a mother’s breast
milk. The leaves or crushed seeds were made into
poultices to treat wounds, as they have antibacterial
and antifungal properties. Due to its high nutritional
content, moringa is also an important food source in
some parts of the world, particularly in India and
Africa, where it is used in feeding programs to fight
malnutrition. The pods, which are called drumsticks,
are prepared similar to green beans, and the seeds are
cooked like peas or roasted like nuts. The leaves are
sometimes cooked like spinach, or the powdered leaves
used as a condiment.
3. Moringa is a natural birth control:
Moringa, like many other Indian herbs, has been found
to be an effective anti-fertility treatment in both in vitro
and animal studies. Therefore, women in their
childbearing years should avoid it completely. The
plant chemicals in moringa root, (which are more
potent than the leaves) have been found to cause a
fertilized egg not to be able to attach to the lining of the
uterine wall, preventing pregnancy, as detailed in this
study. It is unclear whether moringa leaves will have
the same affect (simply because there are no studies
that disprove this), so it’s best to be precautionary.
Once pregnant, there is indeed evidence that ingesting
the less potent moringa leaves will cause a miscarriage
100% of the time. Traditional literature indicates that
moringa was used as a permanent form of birth
control, and even today, in certain parts of India, like
West Bengal, it is taken by prostitutes to avoid
unwanted pregnancies. So ladies, step away from the
moringa until you’re sure you don’t want kids. Women
who are not looking to get pregnant and men shouldn’t
be adversely affected from moringa leaves. Moringa
root should be avoided by all, as it not only prevents
pregnancy, but also contains toxins that can be lethal.
TERI Speaks
Dear Teri,
Thanks for your advice on the danger of leaving plastic
bottle water in parked cars. However, going by your
counsel, how about the big plastic bottle water: C Water
& others that are left in the open by retailers, exposed to
very intense sun shine daily. Are there no toxins leakage?
Thanks. - Dan
Dear Dan,
Thank you for your mail and comment. According to
research, the big plastic bottles i.e. C Way etc are made
from a different and tougher kind of material that is not as
vulnerable when placed under hot temperatures like the
normal PET plastic water bottles. So they do not hold the
risk of toxins leakage like the normal PET. Have a great
week and keep writing in! Teri! (terimendes@gmail.com).
The ‘90s have been a big point
