SOCIAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
Soc Sci profs in conferences and seminars
Professors from the Social Science Department were
part of several conferences and seminars that were recently
conducted in various places in the region and in the
country.
Dr. Rowena V. Isidro, department chair, attended the
30 th National Conference on Local and National History.
It was held at the Holy Name University in Tagbilaran
City, Bohol last 22-24 October 2009.
Professors Teresita Silma S. Balgos and Lorena B.
Salazar attended the “Orientation on R.A. 9700: The
Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program with Extension
and reforms (CARPER) and its Major Programs and
Components.” Conducted by the Department of
Agrarian Reform Regional Office 6, the activity was held
at the Iloilo Grand Hotel on 23 November 2009. Salazar
was also a participant to the “2008 National
Demographic and Health Survey Data Dissemination
Drive” held at the Iloilo Grand Tower, Iloilo City on 2
March 2010. This activity was sponsored by the National
Statistics Office–Regional Office 6.
In the General Assembly and Conference of the
Association of Philippine Colleges of Arts and Sciences
(APCAS) VI, Inc., Prof. Grace D. Galon and Dr. Nora P.
Legaspi, former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences,
were present. Galon attended the activity as participant;
Dr. Legaspi was speaker. Held at the Filamer Christian
College in Roxas City on 22 January 2010, the theme of
the conference was “The Role of HEIs in National
Development.”
Prof. James Mozart R. Amsua was paper reader in the
20 th National Conference on History and Culture
sponsored by the National Commission on Culture and
the Arts and the Asosayon ng mga Dalubhasa, may Hilig
at Interes sa Kasaysayan ng Pilipinas (ADHIKA). The
conference was held at the GSIS Art Museo, Pasay City on
28 November 2009. Amsua’s paper was on “Tatak Pinoy:
Pasajero Sosyal at Patoo Wheel, Gaano nga Ba Ka Sosyal

OFFICE OF GUIDANCE SERVICES
Guidance Office sponsors Job Fair @ USA
The Office of Guidance Services organized a
university-wide Job Fair last 28 January 2010 at the
USA Student Center. Dr. Ernesto S. Garin, a faculty
member of Saviour International College, was the
invited resource person. He shared his expertise on
enhancing personality and developing knowledge and
skills in job hunting.
During the fair, company representatives visited the
University to conduct on-the-spot interview of
prospective applicants from among the graduating
students who participated in said activity. (J.S. Velez)�
USA recognizes feeder schools
The Office of the University President, in cooperation
with the Office of Guidance Services, made possible the
recognition of Feeder Schools last 10 February 2010.
Recognition was given to the top sixteen city and
provincial high schools that consistently provided the
university with placement test takers and, eventually,
enrollees for the past three consecutive years (2007-2009).
The principals and guidance counselors of the concerned
schools were formally invited and were respectively given
plaques of recognition during a program held at the USA
Gymnasium.
Simple USA tokens were also given to the guests after
a tribute lunch held at the University Instructional Media

Counselors attend reg’l seminar
Guidance counselors from the University attended
this year’s Philippine Guidance and Counseling
Association (PGCA) Regional Seminar-Workshop held
last 1-3 March 2010 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo
City.
The theme of the event was “The Counselor: In the
Service of the Community.” Augustinian counselors
present were Mrs. Joy Yongque-Robles, Mrs. Myrna Sazon,
and Dr. Nenita L. Villanueva, director of the University
Guidance Services.
Yongque-Robles attended as a participant while Dr.
Villanueva and Mrs. Sazon attended as PGCA officers. (J.S.
