Chemistry Quiz winners with judges and coaches
champion in the 2 nd Interschool Scientific Poster
Competition. Another entry from the WVSU-
ILS entitled “Vermicast: An Organic Growth
Enhancer for Tomatoes” was First runner-up, and
the study on “Design and Performance Evaluation
of a Waste Digester” from Sta. Barbara National
Comprehensive High School was Second runnerup.
Professors Lerma Paris and Nia Bayona were
the judges.
Last among the list of activities was the 2 nd
On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest. This was
opened to all bonafide students of the University
of San Agustin. The creative artists were each
provided with a drawing board and, using their
own art materials, worked on a poster relevant to
this year’s theme, “Creating Green Solutions
through Chemistry”.
Chief Judge Fr. Nelson Zerda, O.S.A., and
co-judges, Prof. Alma Hermo and Prof. Remi
Charlene Salvilla, declared Architecture student
Francisco Lo II of the the College of
Engineering and Architecture as champion.
Noreen Ponesto and Wilhelm Lizada, both from
the Basic Education Department, Alyn Paul
Emnacen from the College of Nursing, and Fine
Arts student Jeff Ryan Modilla from the College
of Engineering and Architecture were given
special awards. These posters are now on display
at the chemistry bulletin boards of Mendel Hall.

MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS DEPARTMENT
Dept sponsors 8 th reg’l quiz, poster-making
contest
The USA-Department of Mathematics and
Physics held the 8 th Regional High School
Mathematics Quiz and the 3 rd Physics Postermaking
Contest last 8 February 2009 at the USA
Conference Room. The theme was “Mathematics
and Physics: The Interconnectedness.”
Fifteen secondary schools coming from the
different parts of Region 6 participated in the
revived regional high school math quiz.
Participants from Iloilo Scholastics Academy (ISA)
bagged the first place; the second place was won
by Iloilo Angelicum School and the third place by
SPED-Iloilo.
The 3 rd Physics Poster-making Contest was
participated in by physics students in the
University. The first place was the poster done by
the BSIT-3A students, second by the BSIT-3C
students, and the third by the BSCS-3 students.
The said poster making contest was sponsored by
the Physics Laboratory headed by Engr. Hazel
Hidrosollo.

The math quiz and poster making contest were
realized through the efforts of the faculty members of
the Department of Mathematics and Physics headed by
the chair, Prof. Rhodora Cartagena, and the USA-
