Brainwest Career Direction Specialist, review
and training center for various professions,
organized the first Inter-School Nursing
Students’ Research Contest. The final criteria for
judging included: 1) manuscript, 20 percent; 2)
presentation, 25 per cent; and 3) defense, 25
percent.
The judges for the contest were Roman Sanares, a
statistician from the University of the Philippines
Visayas, Dr. Ma. Helena Desiree from Colegio del
Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, and Dr. Sofia Chua from
the Center for Health Development of the

CEA faculty elected PSME-Iloilo prexy
Engr. Elmer N. Tolosa, faculty member of the
College of Engineering and Architecture, is now the
new president of the Philippine Society of Mechanical
Engineers, Inc. (PSME), Iloilo Chapter. He was elected
during the General Assembly and Technical Seminar
held at the Sarabia Manor Hotel on 17 October 2009
by the 2010 Board of Directors.
In his acceptance speech during the turn-over
ceremony and New Year’s Party on 6 January 2010 at
the Marina Restaurant, he stressed the importance of
mechanical engineers in today’s global industrialization.
He challenged all the mechanical engineers present
during the occasion to actively exercise the profession
pursuant to the provisions of R.A. 8495, the law
which regulates the practice of mechanical engineering
in the country. He also encouraged them to convince
graduating high school students to take the Mechanical
Engineering (ME) course. He said that the demand for
mechanical engineers here and abroad will increase in
the next five years but it could hardly be filled in
because of the dwindling number of ME graduates.
Engr. Tolosa is also former Chapter President of
the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines,
Inc. (PCAPI), Region VI, while working at a sugar
refinery. He was also one of the founding members of
the Sugar Industry Environment Committee, whose
chairman was no other than the 2010 Commencement
Speaker of the University of San Agustin, Engr. Jeffrey

Values Ed classes co-sponsor CTGP seminar
The College of Education (CoEd) values
education classes, under the advisory of Dr. Aurora P.
Julito, and in cooperation with the Catholic Teachers’
Guild of the Philippines (CTGP) held an echo
seminar and lecture on “The Role of the Catholic
Teacher in the Mission of the Church” at the Iloilo
Grand Hotel last 6 March 2010.
The participants were the Bachelor of Elementary
Education sections 1-1 and 1-2 students from CoEd.
Dr. Alex B. Facinabao, Dean of the college, opened
the activity with his welcome remarks. Dr. Nora P.
Legaspi, Dr. Aurora P. Julito and Sr. Serafica
Tolentino, O.P., delivered their speeches respectively,
focusing mainly on the idea about being a lay teacher
with a vision and mission of that of the Catholic
Church. Dr. Legaspi is the president of CTGP. Both
Dr. Julito and Sr. Tolentino are present members of
said organization.
One of the lines underscored in the seminar was
that found in the book, The Modern Challenge to
Religious Education, edited by W. Reedy: “The
harvest of the Catholic teachers is also the concern of
all who understand the value of Catholic
